Hello,

I have a quick question caused by the current subprime fall out and banks' stresses: If you do business with a brokerage house, trading stocks and bonds, etc, and the brokerage house fail, what happen to your assets? Will you lose them, or, since those are still under your name and the house could / should not touch them, they are still safe thus available to you at full value?

Thanks a lot.

28 Sept. 2007. Online bank shut down by the U.S. government. The bank's dirty little secret was excessive level of mortgage defaults. The FDIC only insures up to $100,000. $109 million of Americans money was not insured and is lost. Hope your money is not in this bank. Who will be next to go? Are you sure your bank is safe or does it have dirty little secrets of it's own.

I was told that you can. Any thoughts?

I'm talking on a federal level. A tax of 15-20% would be roughly equal to what the IRS takes in in sales tax. This would be more fair to the people, because it taxes on how much they spend, not on what they do for a living (work). Also, you have some influence over how much you pay in taxes. Seems like a good idea to me, are there any drawbacks? Oh yeah it would also make taxes much simpler, cause tax code is about 10x longer than the Bible.

This is a hypothetical situation. I had a dream about coming into a great deal of money unexpectedly and I was not sure what was the right thing to do. For the sake of argument we will assume the money is a gift and is not the source of ill gotten gain or from any illegal or improper source. Is there a legal way to invest this to minimize the chunk that the US government would take out of it for taxes?

I started out 1 year ago with $3k and invested 3k every month. and I started out with 1 stock and bought a diffferent stock each month. and I ended up 8.8% ahead. Is this good or should I have a professional hold my hand?
I bought two losers ( JBLU and FIG ) And even though every one told me to sell these dogs to "cut" my losses I refuse stating I am a "long haul invester"
But, I will cut a stock that won't move either up or down. am I a moron? or just stubburn? What do you think?
Or should I "stay the course".
One more thing. I want to remove my profits off the table but since I am a small time invester I cannot determine (or weigh) the ideal time-my initial goal is to remove profits after a 40-60% gain but even that seems so small and I hate paying the $7 trading fee-lol
Please advise and remember, my risk adversion is quite high.( NO FEAR ! )

I filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy that was discharged over 3 years ago. Before I filed for bankruptcy, I had a car repossessed. I am now thinking about buying a new car, and aside from the bankruptcy, my credit is really good (731 FICO score). The repossession was included in the bankruptcy, and it doesn't appear on my credit report from any of the 3 bureaus. But I know when you fill out an application for credit, they ask if you have any repossessions. Do I need to tell them about the repossession, or am I not obligated to disclose it because it was included in the bankruptcy? Also, can I qualify for those 0% offers that say your credit score has to be 720 or above, or would I not qualify because of the bankruptcy?

I'm sure everyone who has worked as a cashier (either at a grocery store or any other store) has dealt with rude, obnoxious customers before?

How do you deal with it when they TOTALLY piss you off?

I worked as a cashier at a supermarket and today this guy started shouting at me and treating me like dirt. He was paying for his groceries and i noticed he had a case of pop under his cart. So i asked him if the case was from here.. and suddenly he started screaming at me saying "dont accuse me of stealing, how dare you. What right do you have to ask me that? you're not doing your job right" and he threw the money all over the counter & i was like what the heck are you talking about. I asked a simple question and he blew everything out of proportion. He comes back a few minutes later and told me that he complained to my supervisor and said "you're in a lot of trouble." and when i tried to talk he told me to shut the f* up.. i cried and i couldnt help it. i was so embarassed :(

I got my first credit card when I was 26. It had a limit of $500. It was laughable.
When I was young, in my early 20s, it was a time of very fluid pocket money. I lived with my parents, didn't pay rent, and didn't have a lot of bills. So I had a lot of pocket money. Of course, I was limited to buying things in my price range....if I went out to eat, it was usually Chinese. If I bought a car, it was used, you know the drill. I didn't have credit when I was young, but I had pocket cash....mostly because I didn't have bills to pay, not because I was rich.
What was it like for you?

I started college this fall and a new job that I'm not to thrilled about right now. Going to school part time, 3 day's a week, and working a full time job has been really stressing me out. My new job isn't what I expected it to be. My position has many tight deadlines which doesn't give me enough time to plan, my team mates always joke around with each other and when I try to joke with them I get nothing, my team mates said I can always ask them for help and when i did on the 3rd day no one helped me & I have to attend an event they hold every month that is an hour away (which they never told me about on the interview and my car has seen the light).

I don't know what to do.I am not happy at all. HELP!
