I got my first credit card when I was 26. It had a limit of $500. It was laughable.
When I was young, in my early 20s, it was a time of very fluid pocket money. I lived with my parents, didn't pay rent, and didn't have a lot of bills. So I had a lot of pocket money. Of course, I was limited to buying things in my price range....if I went out to eat, it was usually Chinese. If I bought a car, it was used, you know the drill. I didn't have credit when I was young, but I had pocket cash....mostly because I didn't have bills to pay, not because I was rich.
What was it like for you?

Back in the dark ages, when I got my first major credit card, Visa and Mastercards were rather new and weren't so easy to get. Everyone whose credit was good enough to be approved got a $300 limit. It was 2 years, a job change and a promotion before my limit got increased to $500.

12 with a $10,000 credit limit. (It was as a secondary holder and the intent was that if I needed to I would always have the ability to get back home -- after being stranded more than once in various areas of the country).
Didn't affect my spending habits, even through college (I only took out a loan for 1 semester's tuition).

19, which was too young. Made many mistakes.
Thank God, that I learned quick and have made many improvements, and that was more than 20 years ago. So none of that dumb behavior is reflected on my credit reports.
