I'm thinking of starting a business and, amongst other things I'm going to have to buy large quantities of linen. I'm completely wet behind the ears about this sort of thing as I mainly deal in metals. How do I go about finding wholesalers? Can you give me any other tips I might need to know?

I live in Boston where it seems like the majority of women I know are nurses or any girl in her 20's or 30's has gone back to school for nursing. These could be women who have already done a 4 year degree in business, spanish, marketing, but they decide to return to nursing school to get a 2 year associates degree in nursing. My mom earned a BSN in 4 years, she was a nurse at 21. My aunt, grandmother, and cousin all did the same thing. My cousin got her nursing degree at an ivy league school. Seems funny that someone can go to a two year community college, get an associates and make the same salary she does! What do you think will happen in the future of nursing? Many women are doing it because 'the money is good' or 'it only takes two years to get the degree.' I wonder how many of them are actually passionate about it. Nursing is not easy, I feel like nursing is becoming less professional than it once was since everyone is doing it. What do you think?

I've heard that if you want to rat out someone to the IRS for tax fraud that the government will give you a reward of a certain percentage of what they collect. However, you have to fill out a certain form. Does anybody know what form this is and how to obtain it?

My last employer found out I was looking for another job and fired me because of it (that's the reason he gave me). When I filed for unemployment he contested it claiming that I had been reprimanded 4 or 5 times for my job performanace (an outright lie---He never reprimanded me, in fact, a week before he fired me he gave me a raise). Normally I wouldn't rat anyone out to the IRS, but I'm making an exception in this case.

I've gotten myself into a financial pickle. like most people i can get out of it, but it will take time. i own my home and yes i got behind in the mortgage. the bank graciously restructured the loan for me but i don't think i can do it. i'm debating on selling my home and getting a rental place for a couple of years. it would build my credit back up and the rents i've seen are way cheaper than my mortgage (thank you florida for outrageous property taxes and insurance). i'm trying to get an unbiased opinion as i just don't know if i should do this or not.

I am very on time in paying my bills. About a few months ago, my employer at the time shorted my hours making it a hardship on me to pay my bills. The only thing that I could get by with is paying my rent and utilities and I relied on my parents for food, etc.

I was unable to pay my Macy's card for two mos. & they turned it over to this debt collection agency called Van Rue Credit Corp. I explained to the lady that because of my situation with my past employer, I faced a financial hardship. She seemed to sympathize with me and we worked out a hardship plan.

This month, I am unable to pay the agreed amount because I had a medical emergency. It was either I got treatment or die. I told her my situation and she got really nasty with me and said that I cannot skip payment for a month and I better do something to get the money because then I'd have to pay it in full. I assured her that I can pay for next month but she didn't want to hear me out.

Can someone help me with this?

I have had a relatively short working career, the part-time and temp jobs I did through college yielded little income.

Since then (The past 5 to 6 years) I have had somewhat steady employment as a contract designer and no real way to track my income ( I have changed addresses a few times - companies I worked for kept sporadic records etc.) until this past year where I landed a management level position - yet still as a contracted worker with no benefits or taxes taken out to my knowledge.

I now feel it's time to move on to payroll and into the benefits package - but that won't occur until late October of this year.

I'm currently making 45K (annually) and do not want to jeopardize what little money a make by potentially alerting the IRS to my situation before I get my expenses and receipts together.

I'm confident I can "get right" with my tax situation - what's my best course of action?

Thanks again for your time and interest.

My current salary is 42k yearly of which I contribute 10% to an employee sponsored 401k plan. Would it be beneficial for me to open up a Traditional IRA or a Roth IRA?

Also, give the fact that I am contributing 10% into my 401k, could I still use my Traditional IRA as a tax deduction... thanks...

A family member has an outstanding bill from a local hospital for $35,000. She's unemployed due to health conditions and only receives a small widow's pension from the Vets. Admin. She had worked out a plan with the hospital to pay it off. Then they suddenly stopped sending her the bill and now she has gotten a threatening call from a collection agency claiming to represent the hospital. In the call the man stated that if the debt is not paid off they will place a lien on her house. She has filled out all paperwork for Medicaid assistance but has been denied numerous times. She has called the finance dept of the hospital many times but has yet to get a call back. Does anyone know what she can do or what course of action she can take to avoid the lien being placed? Thank you for the help!!

I have founded a small group of volunteers in Mexico. We are currently working on helping horses with food and medical care in a small club. Can I ask US companies for sponsorship even though I am not registered as a company or non-profit organization? In the long-term, I will make the necessary steps to be registered but right now, we are writing to companies to get their help. Thanks for your help!
