If Hybrids were the perfect solution everyone would buy one, since everyone is not buying one they may not be perfect. Don't get me wrong I think they are great and I'll probably get one when my current car dies, but they have their downsides too.

First off some are slow and have a low maximum speed. Also they are expensive, true you will make up the $$ on gas but even still if you look at your expected gas costs for the life of the vehicle you may be losing money since hybrid can be alot more expensive than regular cars.

Still, they really do conserve gas and help the environment so I'd suggest getting one just to do your part but for people who can barely afford the expense it may not be worth it.

I agree with bull_rooster. Hybrids are not the end all solution to our oil situation. Would YOU buy a big clunky SUV jut because it offers hybrid technology ? (Yes, it's making its way into these vehicles).

People in this nation need to learn to conserve fuels in other ways as well.

Consumer Reports did a test comparison on (I think) two smaller Toyota models which were identical, save for the hybrid conversion. They found that the non-hybrid delivered nearly the same fuel economy as did the NON-hybrid version in normal driving.

Right now I drive a full sized Chrysler sedan. It's fairly reasonable on fuel efficiency for its size. Next purchase, I will probably also buy a non-hybrid version, but will base my choice much more closely on fuel economy.

I don't know, but a lot of time advertisers (for magazines, newspapers, TV stations, websites) have a lot of pull for what content is on the site/channel/etc that they are advertising in. if big oil is advertising on Yahoo and Yahoo wrote an article supporting hybrids, big oil might pull their ads - why would big oil give their money to a company that would lower their profits? so whenever you are reading/watching anything that has advertising (which is everything) take whatever you read/hear with a grain of salt because a lot of times it is swayed by advertising dollars.
