I'm 16 right now. But, in 2008-2009 I'm going to be a senior and I will also be 17 years old. I won't be busy during that summer going into senior like I have in the past, so I want a summer job. Thanks a lot.

Most anyone in the U.S. may hire a 14 year old to work limited hours - look at any fast food outlet. But....most will not hire somebody that is younger than 16 because of the legalities of hiring 14 year olds.
If you are well read, B&N would probably love to give you a chance at 17...but I've noticed that most of their people are avid readers (I assume you are too, or you wouldn;t be looking at jobs at B&N and a library.

Generally you must be 18, because some of the books are in fact rated R or even X, you can not buy or even sell these to a customer if you are under 18! It's odd I know, but true.

But they might hire at 16, depending on how many workers they have at one time, as long as someone is available for the bad stuff, they won't loose any customers or get shut down.

Most Jobs require you to be 16. Anything involving handling meat such as chicken or pork, you have to be 18. For Barnes and Noble you should be set.

You probably need a work permit, your high school career center can help you get that.
