Currently my tax rate is 25% and this will likely push me into a higher tax bracket. How much of that $ 60,000 should I set aside for capital gains taxes? Besides holding it for 12 months, is there anything I can do to lower the tax burden?

Why do employers force people to resign? Isn't that the same as firing them? It's almost like resign or else sentence. What is really the truth behind the matter?

was taken over by a debt collection agency called lowell group and an arrangement was made to pay £21 per calender month. however after 3 months, they wrote and told her that they had reviewed her account and increased the payments to £24.50 or close to that figure. she emailed and objected but they still took the new amount. would she be breaking the law to cancel the direct debit and send them a cheque or postal order for the agreed £21 per month? or does she have no option but to pay what they decide?

My husband and I want to put up a 6 foot wooden privacy fence starting at our back door and going around to the other side of the house, completely closing in the back yard. We are looking at about $1500 in material if we do it ourselves, but will we at least get it back when we sell, if not more?

My fiance is struggling with credit card debt and can't do anything to pay it off. He keeps telling me they can't get money from someone who has none. Anyways someone made a phone call to him last night and said "if you do not call me back by 9 pm tonight I will take every legal action possible against you". Of course he called his family to ask for advice and then they said and have been saying that it's just a "scare tactic"... unfortunatly Im not sure anymore.

I have an interview shortly. I had a position about 2 years ago that was very relevant to the one I am applying for. I leaned and accomplished a lot at this position, but I was the "victim" of age discrimination and when I levied a complaint against my former employer I was laid off under the premise of financial hardship to the company. I have two glowing letters of recommendation from my supervisors at the company, however I am concerned that the company I am interviewing with will call the company for a reference. Should I do or say anything in the interveiw if asked?

I owe about 20k in credit card debt,
8k of that is at 2.9% or 3.9% til paid off!
The rest is at 0% til April '08.
By then I'll get more offers for new cards, with bal. transfers free, and often 18 months at 0%
I could keep moving the balances and not worry, since I've done this for years and it doesn't seem to have affected credit score enough to matter.
I know there are tax advantages for home equity loans, and I
could easily get one, but is it worth paying 7+%?
Is there a math calculation to figure this out?
Another factor: I'll probably sell the house within 10 years and pay everything off.
A complete cash out refi. doesn't look good because my mortgage is at 5.38% and would surely go up to at least 6%

We just paid off our mortgage, but have an outstanding home equity loan, which we took out to benefit from the tax deduction. Now that the mortgage is paid off, we're wondering if the loan is still deductible.

We have a proprty which we would like to give to our son who hasn't any other assets.
If he should sell the property within seven years of our giving it to him, would any of us be liable for tax. Is there a time limit? I know we would pay gift tax if either myself or my husband were to pass away within the seven years. But once the gift is made, is he free to do with it whatever he wishes?

I would like to come out to Vancouver for a year. During time spent over in Canada, I would like to gain experience working in a Canadian X-Ray department. I have no idea where to start or whether the degree I have in Radiography has any standing in Canada.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I made an offer on a house yesterday and my Realtor said that the house is owned by a bank and as a part of what they want is a land survey done. The entire back yard is fenced in, so why do they insist on a land survey being done? What is the purpose of a land survey?
