I won a judgement in small claims court. I found out the sheriff can withdraw the money owed from the person's bank account. I called the sheriff and they said I need to know where the person that owes me money opened her account. All I have is her bank account number. Is there any way I can find the address to her bank?

Yesterday I got a notice from the IRS, It said I made a mistake for 2005, and I still owe $800.00. I have 30 days to pay if I agree with this.

I fully intend to pay this ASAP, But will this be over then, or is there more to come?

Mail from the IRS makes me nervous.

Thanks

My boss told me that it is company policy to open all packages that come in even if it is clear that the packages are for an employee. Like if I oder books from amazon then they have the right to open them. Is that legal?

Also there is no written policy on that.

I just graduated from college and found a lucrative finance job in the financial district. Many people have said to live in Brooklyn, where I can can get a place for, say, $900/mo/person with a roommate. This would be a 25 minute commute on the subway.

Alternatively, a few people said to get a convertible 1 bedroom in downtown Manhattan and install a false wall and pay $1400/mo/person with a roommate. This would be a 5 minute commute on foot.

I'm not sure which is wiser. $500x12 is a big difference and even bigger to a college student who compares dollar values to pizzas and cases of beer. Should I live in Manhattan rent or should just pretend I still live in a dorm, suck it up, and save the dollar difference for another eventual expense (i.e. MBA, down payment, vacation, sports car...).

I worked hard in school - I don't want to be a cheapskate but I don't want to be an indebted Yuppie either.

I am starting a small business in electronics retail. I would like to know if there are any agencies that give grants to new small business. Or, would you recommend simply getting a business loan?

I missed the call cause I am 2 hours behind their time zone, but my loan officer called today and wanted me to call him back. Is it better if they call? I mean, is it more likely that my loan got approved? I originally sent him everything he needed to approve me last Friday.

A decade ago the mortgage underwriting standards were pretty simple: 10% minimum down; P&I not to exceed 25% of your net income, 35% of your gross income.

Is anyone that does not meet these traditional metrics considered a sub-prime borougher?

Or is there some “new and improved” underwriting standard?

I’ve heard a number of different explanations about what a sub-prime borougher is. I’ve heard things like FICO scores below 600 or below 500. Or boroughers with a history for bankruptcy. I’ve heard boroughers that qualify on stated income.

I am just curious because it seems that this definition is key for estimating how deep the housing correction will be. If the definition hinges on the traditional underwriting standards, then there is a whole lot more correcting in the future.

Our land lord is a very difficult and hostile person. I don't trust her to return our security deposit. Can we withhold our last 2 months of rent which would be the same as the security deposit. I feel pretty certain that she will pull some stunt to keep the deposit as she has been very petty and difficult to deal with.

My understanding is there are 3 different companies which make money from the use of credit cards: The credit card company(eg Visa or Mastercard), the issuer (eg. a bank) and the processor. What is the breakdown for money paid for each of these services?

Also, do credit card companies issue cards directly (not thru a bank eg.)??

I work at a place right now and out of nowhere my company wants to change my department. They never discussed it with me and they said its because they need people in that department but i dont want to move and i dont think it fair. Basically they told me that if I dont move than i cant work here anymore. So the question is "If they fire me because I dont want to move to another department can i still collect unemployment? They hired me for this position, so can they really fire me for not moving? If it helps i live in NJ.

This is stuff from my early twenties for crying out loud! I successfully passed the written test for this position(scored a 90) passed the polygraph test, and after about 3 months of waiting, I was just told today that they lost allot of my information and would like me to start over because the lady that was handling my background investigation went on maternity leave and didnt leave any information on my case so far. So the new investigator told me he was not going to move forward at this point. I feel like suing because my credit report does not DEFINE what kind of worker I am and I have worked hard at rebuilding my credit.

I have several homes in "low income" areas of my city. I have purposely planted many fruit trees on them. Peaches, cherries, plums, apples, etc. My idea was that I needed trees anyway and my families would benefit from free fresh fruit for their children.

One rental property had this wonderful 10 year old peach tree on it. The city came in and cut it down! Without notice! They are complaining that I planted it in the city zone of my yard, near the city planted tree. That is true, I was thinking of the shade it would provide later (like NOW).

I am really upset, but do not know who to complain to. I know I cna't get the tree back. But, there is so much about affordable housing that I am really frustrated. I am trying to provide affordable housing in homes for families that provide for their needs. Fenced in front yards, trees and bushes (I even have citrus hedges in some) make my houses more "homey" then most. IMO anyway.
