My son was homeschooled thru July, turned 19 in August. Tax book says he still qualifies up until age 24 if "full-time" student for at least 5 months of the year, but is not specific about which "full-time" school actually qualifies. Haven't had a problem with homeschool and tax forms all of these years until now. We live in Texas. I have searched the web as much as possible and cannot find an answer - help, please...

We agreed to split any profits on the house after brokers fees etc.Any money over $200,000 we'd split. He claims to have spent about $8,000 in material. He promised the work would be done by the first week of June,2006.At the end of October he still wasn't done and I had to sell the house as is.I'm disabled and unable to work so I depended on him.I got less than $190,000 so do I owe him his money? If the agreement was to split profits wouldn't we also split the losses?

I graduated from college in April 2006 and am now a teacher. I made $18,000 in 2006. Since I didn't get income until August, my mother said that she could claim me as a dependent. However, one of the criteria for dependent status is being a student for 5 months, but I was only in school for one semester in 2006 (4 months). Can I still qualify for dependent status for this year? Will that mean that all of my federal income withheld in 2006 will be refunded to me?

Do you think these scandals represent “A FEW BAD APPLES “ as President Bush says or do you think that business people in general are corrupt (or do you think that business corrupts good people)?

I'm writing an essay on the above. Could you suggest great websites or books that would help me research this topic, I'm not into finances and business, my degree was psychology.

Or even a great angle for my essay, thanks.

I have a job in which they have been cutting my hours. Right now I am scheduled 18 hours a week or less and I really need the money. I work at a call center and they recently made one in Texas where the minimum wage is like $5 compared to that of California where it is $7.50 now. They give all of the hours to the people in Texas now since it is saving them much more money. Since I am scheduled for only 18 hours a week I really don't like to go home before my shift is over but almost every time I work they want to force me to go home and I refuse to go home but sometimes they make me. I wanna know if it is legal for your employer to send you home if you are doing nothing wrong. To me it is sounds unfair and I really don't think it is legal. If you know it's illegal I would really appreaciate it if you provide me with federal information that says it is illegal. Thank you.

I rent an apartment that has no smoke alarms, and no fire extinguishers. If a fire starts, I will burn. I know the law says these things are supposed to be here, should I report the violation, or just let the place burn my stuff, then call my lawyer ?
