If so, is there a precedent for this? Is there an amount of time I am allowed to repay the amount?

Of course you might have to pay it back. You took the money under false pretenses. You knew you were no longer working there. The amount of time to pay it back can usally be worked out with the company. A company will probably not want to have to expend any more on legal costs, so they will probably try to work with you.

You should check your contract or rules and regulations. If that does not work check with your Human Relations person.
Work from home.
