Consumer Credit Counseling Services is the name of the industry or CCCS. I don't think it's one big company. I would make these recommendations regarding picking a good company.
1) Check with the Better Business Bureau in their location. The rating isn't the most important thing as some BBBs just don't like the industry. The important thing is the number of complaints within the past 3 years.
2) Make sure the company has been around more than 5 years. It can take 3 years for the FTC to close down the bad ones and today counseling programs are 5 years to completion.
3) Use a 501(c) company as they are heavily regulated. These are the non-profit CCCS.
4) Check with the Department of Corporations to verify addresses and length of time in business.
The creditor terms you get will be the same with any reputable credit counselors. I choose the company I refer my clients to based on service. I refer to Family Financial Education Foundation in Wyoming. My clients are very happy with the services they have received.

I don't think any of them are good, but if you must see one, I've heard Consumer Credit Counseling Services is the least crooked.
If you need help, I'd like to recommend something besides credit counseling. Check out Dave Ramsey on www.daveramsey.com and read his book The Total Money Makeover. He's helped a lot of people over the years with getting out of debt and never having to borrow money again.

When all else fails, go with the oldest and most recognized company out there, Consumer Credit Counseling Services.
While the others have come and gone, they have stood the test of time and trust.

i have been using Debt Free for the past 2 years and I have had a lot of success. They are a very good agency to work with. I have paid off so much of my debt because they work with your creditors to lower your interest rates. I have several credit cards with interest rates of 1% or 6% now. The first phone call to them can last a long time because they are very thorough but they are always helpful and never judgemental.
