Hi

I am asking this for a friend he recently moved into a house and rents a room at £50 a week. This is in poole dorset and he has to pay for his bills on top. Does anyone know how much housing benefit he is likely to get as they have still not sorted it 6 weeks laters and he is getting worried that he will owe a load of money

We had a baby in 6/06 and thought our 2006 federal refund would go way up; we received about a $1200 refund last year. In 2006 I made $44,557.50 and had $4563.19 federal withheld; my husband made $47,500 and had $4750 withheld. We own a home and deduct the mortgage interest and we have student loans and deduct that interest. We thought having a baby would increase our refund since the exemption went up, but TurboTax is only calculating a $250 refund...what gives??? Should we maybe file separately? Thanks!

I have recently jumped into the world of entrpeneuership. I have a small IT business that is to serve as an outsource IT solution for small businesses that can not afford permanent IT staff. My business actually depends on someones computer or network breaking down or needed expanding. So I need enough clients that at any given time, someones setwork needs reapir. My husband's company just dropped ALL insurance plans except a high deductible HSA with a $6,000 annual family deductible. Before the insurance will pay one cent we will have to come up with over $10,000 a year (premiums plus deductible). Our previous plan was an HMO and the premiums were the same as this HSA plan except we only paid a $20 copay for most services. I don't understand how this plan is supposed to save us money and improve our health (according to the literature sent to us). Does anyone who have kids have this type of plan? Would it be better for us to shop around for our own coverage (since based on the premiums, it appears hubbies employer is not paying any portion of them)?
