Not knowing where you live, it's hard to say. But I'm a Canadian driver, driving for about 1 1/2 years, and I started with long-haul making about $.35/mile. I hated that, and eventually got a local position floating equipment all over Ontario, which can be tough due to weight, dimensions, permits, road conditions, etc. but was being paid fairly well @ $17.00/hr.. Hourly is way better, 'cause if there are problems...i.e breakdowns, road closures, etc. I am getting paid whether I was driving or not.
It can be tough, but good luck and 'keep 'er between the lines'!!
