I was asked this on an interview (investment banking).

You have two companies which are identical aside from the fact that one is all fixed costs and the other is all variable costs. Which would be worth more in a valuation?

My logic was that an all fixed cost company would have a higher beta, and therefore a higher discount rate by CAPM, and thus a lower valuation by DCF, making the variable cost one worth more.

Sound right?

Hi,
i live in CA and out here housing costs on average $500,000. If real estate market goes down and houses sell cheaper, how likely isit for rent to come back down? Or will the rent stabilize in the area that it is now? Afterall, no landlord would want less rent?

So here's my situation, guys, I am going to (hopefully) graduate this year. I know for a FACT that I want to live in Chicago, permanently. My question is, what is more advisable to do before I make my move: take out a loan and just go for it and find a job once I get there, or wait and rot here in Miami hoping for an interview, secure a job, and THEN move...

If I do take out a loan, which I'm leaning towards more, how much would it have to be and what should I take into consideration? How do I even begin to look for the jobs in my field (International Relations/Geography)?!

Any serious advice would be helpful, really. And for extra, to those who've lived in Chicago AND Miami, which do you prefer and why?

My card had several unauthorized charges, but I don't know if it was connected to the recent TJ Maxx hacking scandal. Did anyone else have identity theft problems with cards that were used at TJ Maxx? If so, in what countries were the unauthorized charges made?

WHAT HAPPENS DURING CLOSING? WHY DO THEY NEED TO REVIEW YOUR CREDIT REPORTS AGAIN? I GOT A PRE APPROVAL, AND I SIGNED A REAL ESTATE CONTRACT, PUT UP ERNEST MONEY, AND WHEN I CLOSE WHAT HAPPENS DURING THAT PERIOD? I NEVER BOUGHT A HOME. I would like to relocate to Kansas, but I can't afford to move without having a job to go to.. I enjoy working out doors, and have worked in a plant nursery for 6 years, and am now working for the Ag. Dept. I have put my apps. on line, but no responses yet. It's like a catch-22.. If you don't live there, it's harder to get a job, and vise-versa.. I'm told there are ethanol plants going in, but I can't find the location's on a web site for Kansas. I am open for other job suggestions if anyone knows anyone who has a business in that part of Kansas.
