between my social security and pension, how much can i receive before i am required to fill out an income tax form

If you're married filing jointly, then you have to file if your income not counting social security is over $18,900 if you're both at least 65, $17,900 if one of you is, and $16,900 if you're both under 65.

If your single, then $9700 if at least 65, otherwise $8450.

All of these numbers are for your income NOT counting social security. This just means you have to file. Social security is not taxed at those levels of income, but does become partially taxed at higher income levels.
