Are there any government grants out there to help a low income family buy a home. I'm a first time home buyer and I can never seem to same any money for a down payment. The cost of the home I would like to buy is $137,000, land, septic and all. Its perfect in a quiet neighborhood and all. Thanks.

I am a special education teacher and I am burned out! It seems that every year things are getting worse in the profession in my opinion. My problem is the only real experience I have is in the teaching field and I can't afford to go back to school for a career change. I'm to the point I dread going to work. I think I need a job that involves some form of autonomy and the world does not fall apart if I need a sick day. Has anyone else been through this and are there any suggestions?

I bought this car back in July 2006 and I had to put my wife's name as a co-signer on the loan application to get the best interest rate. Now my wife's name is on the paperwork as a co-owner, she's never paid any of my car payments, we've been separated for couple of months and we're heading toward divorce. Is there a way to take her name off of my car paperwork?

This is my husbands first year as a truck driver. He works for Werner and recieves per-diem pay. I asked the IRS about per diem, and they said that since the additonal reimbursemt won't show up on our W-2's it isn't counted as income. What things are write-offs? Cell phone? We live in Indiana if that helps.

I think I have now understood federal tax and how a, say, 25% tax bracket does not mean you pay 25% on every dollar earned. However what about state tax. If you are in the 25% federal bracket do you have to "add" another X% of state tax and pay X% an all your income?

I am currently debating between three mutual funds for a Roth IRA account. One fund has a roughly 200% turnover ratio (far greatest of the three), another pays many dividends, and the third has generally produced the best returns of the three over 3-, 5-, and 10-year periods. Lived in Ont. for < than 183 days. Purchased house in US 5/06. Sold house in Ont. 6/06 as non-resident...closed in 07/06. All income sources were US. No employment in Canada, no investments in Canada, no income from Canada.
Surrendered OHIP, closed all CDN credit cards & Ont D. license.
20 yo son attends Queen's U but accepted admission while US resident.
Do we have to file with Canada revenue?
