I am sure that your work with special needs children would be greatly valued. Here are a few suggestions:
1) Caring profession working with children, maybe a hospice, hospital, social care etc.
2) Working as a carer for one child - special need or otherwise
3) Private tutoring
4) Teaching but not with special needs
They offer different levels of autonomy and stress.
Maybe change completely and look at office or shop work. Your personal attributes and education will be greatly valued. It takes a special kind of person to teach special needs children and those skills and abilities are greatly prized.
You are run down at the moment. Take some time off at Easter and work out what you want to do with your life and go get it. Good luck.

Teaching and burn out seem to go hand in hand. There are companies looking for corporate trainers and you might enjoy that. Not everyone is able to get up in front of a group of people and do a good job of it. You might enjoy that.
I've been a librarian for 10+ years and with the exception of one bad boss I've enjoyed going to work virtually every day. There is a high demand for youth services librarians everywhere. See if that appeals to you. Downside is that you'll no longer have those nice school schedules + summers will be busy with summer reading programs. But, depending on the library system, you'll probably enjoy the day to day activities. If you think you could work with teens, there's another high demand field. Anything you do will be more hours than teaching but probably less stressful.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do share your promblem. I'm in the education field too, and I am also eager to get out. I've only been working for a couple of years, but the pay has turned out to be very, very disapointing, especially when you take into account what I do everyday. I am considering law school, which was one of my career choices before college.

If you work with special needs children I assume you enjoy helping others, so you may enjoy what I do. I have a work at home career in the health care field with an awsome company. They offer 401k, benefits and are BBB members. They also offer training and support so you wouldn't have to pay for further education, it is provided free. I would be happy to share details about what I do, contact me if you would like.

You're in a demanding field. It is understanding that you are feeling burned out. Have you thought of doing something totally different with and entrepreneur spirit? Many people have found the relief in network marketing. No, I'm not speaking of illegal pyramids. If you would be open to looking at something - no obligation, then email me and I will send you a link to a 15 minute presentation. You take it from there. Best wishes.

Most companies need corporate trainers. Teaching would fit in well with that. However, you would need to at least take a few computer courses, or something in demand in order to offer something to teach. Another option would be a motivational speaker. If you can think on your feet, professional speakers make tons of money. If you don't, try joining a Toastmaster's club.

Start now by evaluating your future. Don't carry on if you are miserable. Sometimes u gotta do what u have to do. I don't know any of your skills or what your strenghts are. But I do say try to figure out something that u have always wanted to do, think about trying to actually doing it. What type of training and work do u need to get there? How long is going to take? Its time to think about u...best wishes

How are your management skills? Try looking for work and see what is out there. Try Universities and schools.
