I'd bought a collectible Lewis & Clark Comemorative silver proof coin from the US Mint a few years ago.
Recently, I took it down to the local coin shop curious to see what it might be worth.
The dealer there weighed it, and offered me the amount silver was selling for at the time.
When I told him I'd bought it for slightly more than what he was offering, he said they buy only at the weight value, but would not explain further.
Any collectors out there who'd be able to help me with this?

I'm looking to open up a bar/lounge, but have no idea (1) how much money I'd need to open it up and ready it for clientele and (2) how I'd get my hands on that much money, stuck as a temp. Does anyone have any advice for me?

I'd like to hear economists' opinions, not political ones. It seems to me that by taxing income, we are discouraging something that is desirable to society- people working. What if we replaced income tax with a "consumption tax"- charging people for the resources they consume rather than their work? This would encourage resource conservation while at the same time eliminate a negative incentive on working. I think this would lead to increased productivity and job growth in the US. What are your thoughts?

My ex GF of two years helped pay to have my house repainted and replace the water heater. We broke up 3 years ago and now she tells me I am responsible for the money. She was never charged rent or utilities when living there. I sold the house about a year ago. There was never any signed agreement or contract of any kind. These items were paid for with credit cards in her name only!

At what point do the 30 year payments make more sense than a lump sum payment for large awards like winning the lottery. Assuming you're like me and in your 30's and healthy (expecting to live well more than the 30 year payout). Lump sum's usually incur higher penalties and taxes and are smaller right? but putting the money in some conservative investments at some point should give you a better return at some dollar amount than taking the money over 30 years (and investing it as it comes in).

I've a rather old laptop & had been thinking to buy a new one. Up until recently this laptop had been working OK except that it's been hanging up every now & then while using. Local PC repair shop couldn't do much about it & the only option that I was recommended to was to falsely claim it being damaged as a part of home content insurance.

Since I've never done such "fiddling" with insurance, I felt less comfortable but seeing this being the only option of either getting it repaired or getting it replaced, I'm inclined to give this "fiddle" a go, with my insurance claim.

I've already reported insurance company that I've had laptop dropped accidentally on the stairs while taking it upstairs, they've arranged their company to have my laptop collected & get it inspected.

I have just put in an offer to purchase a house in downtown Winnipeg Manitoba, walking distance from a university and a large hospital. It is a 4 bedroom fixer upper, 1400sq ft, full unfinished basement and built in 1882. I purchased it for 32000$ and it needs about 10000$ work. Taxes are low, about 290$ a year. The tax assessment for the house is assessed at 35000$ for the house and 15000$ for the land. So it's assessed at 50000$ and I'm paying 32000$. I think I could rent it out for about 650 to 700$ a month plus utilities because it's so close to the school and 4 bedrooms. House is fairly solid but needs some cosmetic work. Floors, new doors, a couple windows and an addition that needs new everything. This is my first purchase and I intend to rent it out. I plan to eventually own several rental properties. Can anyone give me tips on anything to do with rentals, tenants and fix up work? Did I get a good deal? ANYTHING would be really appreciated!
