Without insurance? Figure a minimum of $10,000 - IF it's a straight, normal birth, with ZERO complications.

You'll need to pay the OB-GYN, the hospital itself, the anastesiologist (unless you plan on doing it with zero drugs!), for any lab testing, for the baby to be in the nursery, and for the pediatrician on-call to examine the baby. And these charges are all for each day you're in the hospital.

I don't recommend doing it without insurance - even insurance that has a deductible - the highest deductible I know of for hospital charges is $1200 a year.

If you're going to do it without insurance you may want to consider buying a health care discount card, which arranges a discount with many medical providers.

The cost of the birth could be hundreds or even thousands of dollars less if you have one of the cards.

for a normal birth, about $7,000. For a C Section, about $14,000.

Consider a midwife, about $2500, and a birthing center, about $1000.

If you don't know how to spell baby, you can probably get it free. Go to the health dept and ask.
