I don't know if this is the relevant section to post?

I went for a job interview as a conference host and it all seemed to be going well. They wrote me a letter saying that they were pleased for me to start work and gave the dates but were just waiting for two of my references to get back to the employer.

When the references came through, they were unsatisfactory (not to the required standard) so I know what unsatisfactory means. But I don't know why they were.

The last employer I worked for was for an agency and I was being bullied at work but they didn't want to deal with the problem so I left in july this year. The other referee I gave was also for temporary work but I left that because it was temporary agency work and not fulfilling me in any way. Now, if I don't have adequate references how do I get a job?

You cannot ask family and have no friends I can ask and my bank isn't quite enough. By law, aren't employers meant to give good references anyway?

I work for a big company and there has been alot of change in my department. I also have a new manager which to start with we had a very good relationship. However this has not been the case of last and i feel that all decision making has been taken away from me. My manager does not involve me in any verbal communications but does include me in email correspondents. I am feeling like a spare tyre at the moment and feel i am not contributing anything to the new team. What are you thoughts on how i can deal with the situation?

I have been paying 22% on all of the jobs I do, although my overall earnings are under my personal annual allowance. I am not self employed; I work for companies on a part time or casual basis. How can I go about claiming my tax back as my attempts every tax year so far have failed. I know I probably can't do this til April but want to prepare myself. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I have an endowment policy that is due to mature in 2013. There is no mortgage linked to this policy and I have been using it as a savings plan. The life insurance element of the policy is no good to me as if I die before it matures the life cover pay out would go to someone else (part of a divorce agreement). The insurance company are quoting a surrender value of apx £17K, with a forecast of around £30K if I wait until 2013. I will be 63 in 2013 and am worried that if I don't make 63, I won't see a penny of this and it'll all go to my ex. A solicitor has advised me that under the wording of the divorce agreement I could surrender the policy, invest the money more wisely and in the event of my death before 2013 my ex would only get the surrender value. It is bothering me that I am paying £700 a year into a policy that I may get no benefit from. Any advice please.

This past year, I needed to put in for an extension in my taxes. I paid the small tax due, but I hadn't had time to track down some items, so I didn't want to file at that time. When I did track down everything, it turned out that everything was correct, so I neither owed more, nor was I due a refund. I believe I then filed (via paper filing) but I can't remember. I did print out a copy of my return which I have in my records. I would like to ensure I did file, so that all is clean with the IRS. Is there any way to check the status of whether I actually filed or not?

I looked on the IRS website, and it looks like there is a section where you can check on your refund, but I don't see anything where you can just check filing status when you are not due a refund.

I’ve just turned 22, and I work for a recruitment company (helping others find jobs etc). I’m sick and tired of people claiming JSA (Job seekers allowance). The majority of people claiming are more than capable for working, their just darn lazy. Maybe they should have a new thing inplace, where u can claim for 2months, and after that tuff ****!

Also while I’m letting you know my thoughts, - I also disagree with young mothers being given anything more than a flat (handouts and nice houses- while im struggling to find accommodation). My best mate has a 3year old son, and she’s been given a nice 2 bedroom house on a nice estate. She gets £X amount of money a week, and both her and her soon dress in designer clothes… she has a part time cleaning 2.

So all these handouts are unfair, and I think everyone should get off their fat lazy arses and go to work…. After-all the way things are going, with the rise of eastern Europeans coming to work in UK, you will all be “bums"
