Go to a bank and ask if they operate a savings account with a cash card. As savings accounts cannot offer credit then a credit check will not need to be done providing you can satisfy the UK Money Laundering laws by providing ID to prove your name and address.

I have this type of account with Abbey. Check if they still do this.

Alternatively, open a savings account with a high street bank or building society. The only down side of this is that you will have to go in to draw cash but as most are open 9-5 six days a week this shouldn't be too great a problem. Also, with high street banks, they will have branches in most places so you will be able to get money wherever you are.

Some banks offer special accounts for people with bad credit. These banks are hard to find in the UK

For the record not all banks check credit.

In the US
Some check for both checking accounts and check/debit card.
Some check for just check/debit card
Some don't check your credit info at all.
However, Most do check telecheck or check systems for bad checks.

I think you will find my dear fellow that in order for you to open a bank account in this country you will need to have valid ID proof of address and then all banks these days do do credit checks you cannot get away with it they need to know whether you are credit worthy and wheneter you are not going to go over drawn so yes iam afraid credit checks area must. They wont open an account for you unless it is kosher and that you are clean .

Try the Halifax easycash account! No credit checks and you can build up yr credibility with them which will lead to you being able to eventually have a current account. You can have money put in but don't get a debit card etc so it's not possible to go overdrawn. You can use yr cashpoint card in all link machines and you can even arrange direct debits.

The co-operative bank will allow you to get a basic account with a Delta Card but no overdraft. Hubby had one when he was declared bankrupt due to a lovely ex-wife.

The best thing to do, i imagine, would be to go to a decent high street bank, and tell them the truth. There's a reason you have bad credit, and the bank deserve to know - they are a business, and they're providing you a service for payment.

either you will have to get a basic account (provided by most banks), or visit cashplus.co.uk, its a credit card that only you can credit on (like a top up), its master card so can be used almost anywhere, it costs a fee to take money out, and it takes up to five days for wages to clear
