I would like to know, if you are a naturally friendly person who always have a kind and soft heart since small but throughout your life you continue to experience betrayal, abuse, discrimination, cheated, distrusted, etc by 9 out of 10 people you met, what stance you'll take to continue to survive?

I am a religious and spiritual person, but I will take the dark side for self-defence. I have learnt to be ruthless, selfish and distrust others in order to survive. What about you?

I'm 34 and have found that as Ive got older, Ive become more aware of what I want from life and my attitude towards life has become more relaxed and in some respects it has led to my life unfolding the way I want it to. Not in all areas, but certainly in some and I think accepting myself and generally mellowing a bit as Ive got older has helped me in a lot of ways, certainly in the way I see life and myself. Thoughts please? Had similar experience?

Why waste your time with proofs, factual information and statistics when EVERYTHING can be argued intelligently anyways?? Even the most absurd things can be justified if a person is willing to put in that much effort.

Why can't we just argue opinions? Isn't that what most people do anyways?

Christians, please do not see this as a forum for the usual cutting and pasting of scriptural drivel. It is a philosophical question aimed at stirring lively, intelligent debate.

I am directing this question towards a more rationalist crowd, and am not concerned with emotivism at this present time. From what I have read from those advocating emotions to be 'logical' and 'rational' and am severely bored with their works (I.e. Robert Solomon). I want an good philosophical work on the emotions and how they are viewed by the reasonable mind. I realize this debate has become redundant, but I am not downplaying the emotions--I am just a realist in philosophy looking for a book on the emotions and how someone who believes they should be submissive to rationality can understand them better--enough to be able to think and write about them more. Any suggestions on a book to begin with?

I wonder sometimes if people that really did have more time would actually get more done, or continue to procrastinate?

When people are motivated, the work hard and fast.
