I feel boarderline retarded. I just cannot believe that it has taken me 24 years to really figure how the world works. Please tell me what when wrong, or could it be what went right.

One day I just got tired of failing at EVERYTHING. I read so many books and talk to so many more people. Could it have been that? Idk....

Why are we able to be frightened of them, fall in love with them, be jealous of them, envy their wealth, etc. if they are fictional? What is it about fictional books and characters that they are able to evoke emotions in us?

my proof is that we still kill each other to reach the top in a pointless survival game that humanity has "played" even before its own existance.

Today I brought my birds outside.
They seemed surprised at the skies, open wide.

The wind frightened them terribly.
The wild birds talked with them quietly.

I began to wonder, "Should I set them free?"
What a wonderful experience that would be!

They would fly in the sky 'til their wings grew tired,
But after that would be hagsmire.

They'd have no food or shelter from the cold.
My tropical birds would not fit in the mold.

Their ignorance makes me wonder, are we ignorant too?
Locked in a cage without a clue?

Are people watching us like a globe of snow?
We, us "pets" would never know.

Are they watching over us day after day?
If they are would you like it that way?

(PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER)

In the Republic, Socrates argues that justice is an excellence or virtue that never brings about harm to anyone since harming something usually worsens it. Therefore, is there ever a time when a just man or woman works what is harmful or brings about harm to a human being?

OK. Let's say your feet are tied to a track where a runaway trolley is speeding towards you. There is a switch next to you that if you pull, will change the direction of the track. But if you pull it, it would derail the train, causing it to plough through a nearby town, killing everybody in the streets. What would you do?

I work w/patients who have (amongst other things) dementia, Alzheimer's disease and/or mentally retarded/developmentally disabled.

So, I have been wondering -if there is a life after death, what form does our spirit exist in? How much resemblence does it bear to the people we are now?

For example, Alzheimer's is an organic disease that results directly from the destruction of brain cells. In addition to causing memory loss, it can cause severe personality changes -so what is it that makes up a person's "spirit"? And what part of it will carry on after death? I mean, a whole personality can be altered by changes in brain function -so what is it that makes us who we are?

And what about people who are born w/a mental defect?

Just curious what other people think.

And, PLEASE don't tell me about your religion or quote scripture to me! No offense, but I am interested in original thought - not in being preached to ;)

Picture this hypothetical situation.

You're the leader of the Earth Government. You answer to NO ONE. During your reign, it has come to your attention by Earth's leading scientists that the Earth is being choked by the human race, and the only hope for the future for the planet depends on a mass genocide. There is absolutely NO WAY to avoid this grim action.

Who would you have killed and why?

(Don't waste your time if you plan to answer with something like "stupid @ssholes like you".)

writing a book on existenialism that otherwise everyday people
or people of unlikely backgrounds can relate to whenever I feel my philosophy is ready to reveal itself.I think what turns people away from philosophy is that many popular philosophers have this authoritative aura about them.I'm not looking as to so much simplify the essence of it,but to make it more understandable and appealing to the non-typical everyman. What do you think?

Okay, so why, deep down, is tradition actually important?

If Congress passed a law that would negate tradition and start from scratch, people would fight it tooth and nail. But what is actually the value of tradition? Why do people value it? Is it not just simply a preset societal pattern of doing something that people invented? What is so special about it?

Path called life

As I follow this path of life
so cold and full of rocks
I stumble across lifes stumbling blocks.
As I follow this path called life.

As I follow this path of life.
Should I be as the rest?
Or perch in my own nest?
As I follow this path called life.

As I follow this path of life
Oh! I think I see a trail, deep within the woods
there lies, lifes lowly goods.
As I follow this path called life.

As I follow this path of life
I will stand for what is right,
even if I am alone.
Soon to end this path called life.

What method is most effective in helping someone to realize the error in their ways? Sometimes I believe that a loving smack (or tap if you prefer) on the head will do allot more for a person than holding their hand! What are your thoughts?

For anyone who thinks this is advocating violence please do not bother answering.
