You got it all the other way around, as usual!0!
The affairs of the heart destroy the mind, and the affairs of the mind fog the heart.
Trust nobody; trust is not required, love is.

"If affairs of the heart fog the mind " There is a proverbs which says" he who fallows his heart is a fool but he who fallows righteousness stand upright and shall never be put down " .........."and affairs of the mind destroys the heart" He who stand righteous destroys the heart? ,no,no,no, that is direct , it should be the finitude of the heart ,for what love is ?It is infinite. And where should we depend on as you've ask ? it is now on our soul,in our spirit,in our self ,which is only one in God .Behold ! this is infinite hence what you should depend on which is yourself it should endure the impassability through faith the in the last day everything would returned to you.yet never to desire them for nothing comes first but a test .Yes you seek for discernment but learn to read the Proverbs in the bible for you to have a guide .This is the righteousness of a genuine man.

Learn to apply judicious common sense.
The best way for us humans to make the best decision is to get to know ourselves thoroughly prior to making any life changing decisions.
Lucky for us we have excellent tools to do just that. The MBPI comes to mind. If all else fails then tattoo on our foreheads something like:
Beauty without merit is a bait for fools!
This could become shortcut for: if in doubt, don't.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative. The parts are born into unity but the whole changes in its life. What you understand as mutually inflicting parts are reciprocally reliant and in unique action they are form for the whole moment. The Will is positive and the Judgment is negative, but it is the sickened Judgment that suffers and makes to suffer others.

you have to depend on both. consider it a juggling act on a tightrope. is it any wonder people have so many problems when they have to balance rationality and a heart.
