We use the word because we believe that we are so much better than animals. Think about it, What do we say when someone is selfish and unkind, we call them a pig. What do we say when someone is working under huge loads, working like a dog. What do we say when someone attacks another without provocation, that they are a beast.
We attribute all the ills of our nature and our soul to animals, to our lower instincts. But on the flip side we attribute kindness, compasion, love, joy, etc. to the better more human part of our souls.
The truth is that humans are animals just like every other one on the planet, the only difference is we can ask 'why?'.
Hope this helps.

Except that the killing of another of our species is neurophysiologically repressed. As the article I sited mentions, rattle snakes will not kill each other during a fight, but will wrestle for dominance. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, even a lot. The point I am making is that our nature is not to kill each other, it is just that we get emotionally tangled and confused and do it anyway.
If you believe in evolution, compared to animals in the wild we are much more rational and have come a very long way from simply reacting to the environment violently. But we still have a long way to go, and the sooner people realize that letting your emotions do whatever they want leads to having a bad day, the sooner we can all build a better world.

The survival for humans is playing in an unequal environment of opportunity and acumen. We are not the same, and the means of survival has never been friendly and generous. It is hard, telling the other guy to make way or even slow down for you to catch up. On the other hand, who would give way to him on his generosity for you, out of mercy for your inability to achieve the desired performance. We cannot be envious of those who are successful. We should instead learn from our incapacity and strive within the confine of our strength.

Agreed. However, we CAN be very good people. I kinda like to think that's why the word "humane" means good stuff.

i don't know, people can feel a lack of control so they attempt to control their surroundings in one way or another. they are at a war with themselves destroying everything around them.
