We are the watchers and the pets.
This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.
This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.
At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.
We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.
These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.
From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.
I hope that helps to answered your question.
Love and blessings Don

I suppose that the caged bird analogy requires a little attention. To live free is to live at least with the illusion of freedom. The caged bird has no illusion of freedom. It can be habituated to a cage but it is evolved to fly and therefore must on some level desire open spaces. On the other hand the bird is also tended; cleaned, fed and watered. It is brought toys to entertain and a cuttle bone to gnaw on but in exchange it must subordinate its most basic instinct - to fly. If there was a benign observer somewhere out there peeping at my life then so be it but I would never give my freedom in exchange for comfort.

Today you brought your birds outside,
to enjoy fresh air opened wide.
You thought about how they feel'
because your heart is good and real.
you wondered if they would be happier free.
only because you love unselfishly.
willing to break your own heart,
to give the little guy's a start..
you are thinking like a mom..
who wonders when the day will come.
to set her little birdies free..
to watch them fly happily.
alas, Mom's protection won,
to keep them safe is number one.
you are often watched the same.
because from a mother you came.
you are loved and so revered,
because your heart is good and dear..
as for living in a globe of snow.
angles watch you too you know.
sent from heavenly father above,
with the utmost heavenly love.
someday your turn will come by,
to leave the coop and learn to fly.
and should you ever fly too high,
look down and see only sky.
all the watchers will be there.
to catch you with loving care.
this ones for you my noble one.
cause I'm so proud to be your mom.
I love you baby..

In nature, the worst enemy is captivity. Once an animals freedom is taken away, it slowly, but surely loses it's will to live, as well as it's ability to maintain it's original prowess among it's peers. Animals, as well as humans are subjected to all sorts of different stimulus. When in captivity, be it in a cage, or a job, or a situation that seems to restrain them from being happy or living a normal existence, especially when it is observed by others of the same breed, makes it seem hopeless and will eventually have a serious effect on the mental state of said animal.

Everyone is ignorant in things.
No one can be an expert in everything. Those birds are experts at giving you happiness. You love their company. Because of that: you feed them, talk to them, give them company as well. Sure, you set them free, they were never used to that lifestyle. They can die, or maybe they are smart enough to find their way.
Now, not only the birds will suffer. You will suffer as well. You will no longer have their company. You will no longer be able to talk to them, play with them, sing with them... Will you die? Probably not because they need you a lot more than you need them, but will it affect you? I am sure it will in many ways.
I don't think is ignorance, is dependance. And they are dependent to you because thats the only thing you taught them. You think those birds think they are ignorant? I bet not! They do everything as exactly as you teached them to.

If the creatures are living
free they should be
no one cares about your living
no one watches you or me
all things are merely living
trying to be while everyone wants to see

God is watching, waiting to see how we react to what He places before us, who we turn to for help. Not a sparrow falls without Him knowing.

No, the odds of some powerful race observing us are as close to zero as one can get. Even if they are, and we have absolutely no way of knowing it... so what? What does it change?
