Do you guys think that animals like chicken, cows, pigs, etc. are placed on Earth for our sustenance? That their purpose here is to feed us and so it is alright to kill them and feel no regret?

'Placed' and 'purpose' in the way that you use them tend to imply some kind of intelligent design. If that is what you mean, then I recommend that you consult the religious manual of your choice for explanations of the purposes of various things. The Bible, for example, makes several references to exactly this - the purpose of animals is to be eaten by man. All of them.

On the other hand, if you're asking something a bit more philosophical, like 'What is the meaning of a chicken's life?', then I have an entirely different answer for you. It's rather obviously from a chicken's perspective that it is not his goal to become lunch. But I would suggest that chickens do have the same intrinsic goal that all life does - to change themselves for the better. Perhaps to aspire to being something more than lunch.

Fortunately for me, I usually get to adopt the human perspective. The only way animals fit into my goals and ethics is this: how to they serve the long-term benefit of the human species? If we can do something better with them than eat them, then you are probably right to feel regret. If we value something else above our own long-term survival, then that value has the potential to eventually destroy us. And I plan on sticking around for the long haul.

So no. I don't feel an ounce of regret, myself. Except for the octopus. I always felt those guys never got a fair shake, with their copper-based blood and all. If I ever become an wacky millionaire I'll probably set to fixing that one. Then my octopus armies and I will be invulnerable!

Mua ha ha!

Yes, and no. No it is not their only purpose on earth to serve as food for humans. You must realize that humans are animals too, we have just evolved differently so that we seem the superior species (i'm not totally conviced we are (just look at someone totally enslaved by their pets)) But we are not the only carnivorous animals out there. Animals are meant to serve their lives as food for others for the most part. Out in the wilds when an animal dies it is food for other animals. The only regret anyone should feel over eating animals is the way the animal was treated before becoming your dinner. The meat farms today have horrendous methods for growing and killing their products. Cows being pumped with steroids to produce more meat. chickens kept in coups so small they become deformed. It is disgusting. That is what we should be ashamed of when it comes to eating meat. I know it sounds cheesy but, we are all part of the circle of life, our lives give life to others as their lives give us.

Do you think that the creator of all things would let you starve for lack of protein or sustenance?
Yes, he names those things in which we a people can consume in the book of Genesis and Leviticus.

Yes... have you noticed what happens when animals aren't hunted, or allowed to be eaten? They always overpopulate and starve.

As humans, we are a predator, simple enough.

Look at our teeth, they were designed for an omnivore, and our metabolism allows us to eat both plants and meat.

we were not meant to hunt and kill - but to be like vultures - picking the carcasses of the dead only when we needed to - we were intended to be mainly vegetarians with mild meat-eating
