History is a made up story that is written by the victors.
It is a reflection of what they wish would have happened.

very interesting question with deep philosophical implications! Actually, as a philosophical question, it should be restated... What is time? This issue is subject to much discussion throughout the philosophical literature. In modern times, the existentialists have discussed time in relation to existence. St. Augustine devoted much of his major work, "Confessions of St. Augustine" to the issue. History is but the record of events over time. In his book, "God and the New Physics", Davies explains the link between space and time, and offers a number of paradoxical situations for his readers to contemplate.
Certainly, history is manipulated or "spun", and history may not turn out to be fact. Since the past is only as accurate as memory, and my memory may be different than yours, it is easy to understand how the spinmasters can play with our heads through the use of warped history.
Teachers within our schools need to be careful with history, that they do not create problems for the future by misrepresenting our past.

It is a record of our past, after it has been messaged, doctored and spun to suite someones predetermined concepts. Having stated that allow me to add that there are historian out there that do strive to be accurate about what they write. There is an old saying "Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Do we want another Hitler?
