One day two incidents:
1- Tom Cruise and Katie Holms got married in a fairy-tale ceremony which have probabaly cost milions of dollars.
2- In a parking lot in front of a Wal-mart a guy asked me for whatever change I have in my pucket in exchange for him cleaning my windshield. I don't even have enough money to fill up my gas tank and yet this guy asks me for my spare change. I gave him what I had (which was less than a dollar) and I apologized for not having more and he said: "don't worry, it is the thought that is counted."

What kind of justice is this?

Can anyone think of an argument why it should not be legalised because to do so would create a situation wherein morality becomes relative and therfore useless (a la Henry Jaffa: www.tfp.org/tfc/Dr._Jaffa.htm ), and therefore there is a knock-on negative effect on the overall happiness of society.

Don't actually agree with this but need the argument for an assigmment. So to argue from a utilitarian perspective against the legalisation of same-sex marriage...

After seeing wicked, I was really struck by the idea that so much in that play paralels our own society, for example that what is beautiful is good and what is ugly is bad. but so often the exact opposite is true that many times the "pretties"t people are the meanest, dumbest and most ignorant and the "ugliest" people are usually the most interesting and kind. How often in our society do you think that our bias twords "Ugly" and our attraction twords "Beautiful" has caused us to have a less than honest picture of life? I think of the example of the music industry where if you are beautiful and can't sing, you have a better chance of making it than if you where ugly with a great voice. Do you think we are missing out on a whole dimension of exsistance because we disgard what is unappealing to our eyes?

It seems to me that some seem to think that we provide and care for animals. from my experience it looks like they have got it made. Humans may be the slaves. watching a dog find by 'guidance' find the exact plant to aid its stomach , or cats do similar things. How birds instinctively find the right materials perfect for a nest. Threy dont have to learn that they need a 'shop' or go o the timber merchants to get chippings- u know what i mean. I think we have the same insincts but have jut become 'GLASS EYED MATERIALISTS, HYPNOTISED. hey hitchhikers and the dolphins comes to mind? Tyanks for all the fish

how is it tat humans seem to think they are more intelligent life on the planet. Its only my opinion but the five human traits are S*ITing, Eating, f*cking, making money, complaining, . And howerver mentally advanced they claim they are they seem to me to be going backwards ---still cave man. Where were all these 'diseases' even 50 yrs ago when diet was simple and knowledge was simple??! Seems to me i reckon they find a pill for a cure then make upthe condition. Is it all control???????hmm...politics.

With a colony that included your close friends and family, even if you knew you would never be able to come back? Assume the universe is an interesting and novel place, and that you don't necessarily have to take your relations if you don't like them. Assume the transit will be made cryonically preserved so you won't spend the entire trip bored.

This is a "what if" question. I only say that because of the absolutely astounding 40% of Yahoo users who seem to be suffering from some sort of brain damage, and take non-serious questions seriously.

"Absurd" is a literary and philosophical term, so please ONLY answer if you have some idea of what you're talking about.

I just read The Winter's Tale, and so many details in it seem to me "absurd".

When I read up on the background of absurdism, though, I'm not so confident anymore ....

Does absurdism refer only to existentialism in the sense that everything in life is meaningless?

I'm trying to see if I can extend the term into my work on the play.
