It's the Matrix. I'm not just being a sci-fi geek, The Matrix is a metaphor for the multitude of systems of control that begin to coerse our reason and manipulate our thoughts from even before we were born. Breaking out of the real life Matrix of pop culture, news media misinformation campagnes and politics is about as difficult as it is to break out of the computer generated dream world in the Matrix movies.
We do it to ourselves. Those of us on the bottom rungs are subject to all of the advertising and misinformation (and make no mistake, if you don't make a more than a couple million dollars a year, you are no where near the middle.) The people on the top are also controled by the system. They make so much money because they need to. Because the system decided they were going to think money was the ultimate answer long before they were born. So the system has cultivated, in them, a need and an ability to make exorbitant amounts of money.
To get money, they manipulate and control us. The ones on the bottom. For most people who are caught up in the Matrix it takes a lot to open your eyes and see it for what it is. And even if you do see, as far as I know, noone has managed to successfully break out of it, let alone come back and shut it down. Breaking out would mean fending for yourself in the truest sense, hunting and foraging. So the answer to your question is this: Human beings, while attempting to create a world of luxury for themselves and those around them (but not necessarily EVERYBODY) , have created a system that is too big and too strong to be stopped. This system encompasses everyone on the planet. The system is damaging the planet and if things keep going the way they are it will end all life on this planet.
The answer is to unite towards survival, if we're going to go the way of science and technology we must use it towards preserving the planet and colonizing space. If we want to go towards spirituality and nature, then we must abandon technology and live simpler lives. Either way, we have to unite and we all have to work. Hard. We created this system because we all want to be able to sit down and relax, or we want to be able to do what we want when we want more often than we should and that desire is what keeps the system running. It will take alot of hard work to get control of it and that is simply not going to happen. So yes we are all doomed.

Have you ever seen a monkey build a bridge to cross a river?
Or build an airplane to cross continents?
Or build a rocket to go to the moon?
But I agree that an uneducated human being can be worse than an animal, no doubt about it.
And I don't mean the education that you get in college.

humans are smart, but they are stupid in a way of thinking themselves as very smart, in which they are not. That creates corruption and things such as creation of diseases... We humans are so smart that we became stupid... We feel intelligent, so we become lazy, corrupt, greedy, taking shortcuts, and the like... that is how things balance in this world... A knife is to cut food, but we humans use it to cut each other... "There is enough in the world for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed." Buchman, Frank
We humans are truly smart, but we are blinded by emotions that make us stupid... Animals other then humans know ther is enough in the world for everyone's need... but because of greed we humans want more therefore making us stupid because we just don't accept reality...

Select a more intelligent life form, point out the hospitals they have built, the roads they have constructed or the space stations they have orbited and I will discuss this with you.
"Intelligence" and the application of "same" are two different things.
Have a good day.

Wait so cave men were stupid too?
and having a lifespan of 40 years without knowledge of a disease doesn't make the malady non-existent when you keel over dead 'for no apparent reason.'
Animals are pretty stupid. They don't know sh;t. They can't adapt at our capacity. They're completely molested by our power. It doesn't even fkn compare.
Some humans are damn retarded as well, but that doesn't stop our knowledge from advancing, while you cornhole your medicated mother in whatever nacho-stained reality you live in.

generally we're not stupid. Apart from ppl using words like 'stupidest'. However i do believe that somewhere along the line we got our priorities out of order. This caused us to make some stupid choices.

I don't think we are stupid. I think we are self centered and self absorbed. We have created societies and religions to support this self absorbtion, greed and selfishness. It takes the ability to think in very convoluted ways to do this.
No, we aren't stupid. But we shouldn't be so proud of ourselves. In the end the worms will be chuckling as they recycle our huge brains through their guts.

So you're not a humanitarian then? ;)
Oh well, yes we don't always make the best choices. But our capacity for thought still means we outrank other mammals.

We've come this far haven't we. It's high time we explore inner space instead of outer space.
