I am supposing that there is an answer. Why are we here? What is our purpose? I really would not like answers such as "to go to heaven" because there is no such thing. In any case, what is our purpose here on this earth while we are alive?

When I was 13 or 14, I was coming out of a depression and my epiphany was something like "Life is a comedy and I get to watch."

Then at 16, I realized something like "I can't put my life in the hands of someone just because they say they will take care of me. I am my primary care taker."

Or like Liz Murray (wiki her, its amazing) when her mother died and realized that people are just people. Kids who go to Harvard are as human as kids who skip school. What makes them different? Whatever it is, you can fill in the gap.

So what are some of the epiphanies you have made in life. I just turned 18 so I only have 2 I remember.

Okay, so, the break is over, and now its time to vote. I will not vote, unless a tiebreaking vote is needed. I'll ask you to pick and rank from first to third, the selections that you are most interested in reading. I am hoping that a clear directive emerges from the first rankings, because if not, then I will have to go review voting methods. Anyway, please pick your top three. I won't vote unless a tie-breaking vote is needed.

1) Immanuel Kant -- Prolegomena

2) Seinfeld and Philosophy

3)Otherwise Than Being: Or Beyond Essence

4) the alchemist.

5) Gadamer's Truth and Method

6) Phenomenology of Spirit -- Hegel

7) Kierkegaard's Provocations

I'm looking for answer's from people my own age (17-21). Who looks back to the past now and realizes how much better it was and how much better it was for us growing up then it is today. the 90's had it all. I very often find my self suffering from nostalgia because everything about growing up was just so much fun. Now life seems to be heading down a dark road and so is everything I once cherished. Remember when nickelodeon was actually good? look at the garbage they play today. Remember Nirvana and grunge. Biggie Smalls? look at the garbage music out now. I just miss everything about the past, "the good old days" anyone else?

i dont think anyone seriously expects to answer the question; W.I.T.M.O.L. :to know what something is you have to be able to stand apart from it = to see it in its totality...and we live inside of what we are seeking to define.
some people speculate that the only problem we really have is our SELF(S) [no spelling error!] and that a selfless person has no problem or worries. and all the striving and angst iin life is the futile attempt to fill the bottomless hole called the self. so maybe contentment comes when you stop trying posess and fulfill...but instead..give your-self away in the service of something greater than yourself. im not talking religion here..though it could be.
one of the nicest things i heard on this subject was by a woman in her forties. she said by the time that she died she wanted to feel totally used up, that she had helped and contributed all she could.
what do you think..is the pursuit of self fulfilment a mirage?

If a person is paranoid about walking along side a row of bushes for fear that someone may jump out and attack them... the best way to overcome the paranoia is to walk along side a row of bushes and notice that they are not being attacked.

If a person is shy... the best way to overcome the fear of talking is to communicate with people... and notice that even though they may get ridiculed at times for things they say... no one is dying over it.

What are some of your thoughts regarding ways to overcome fear?

I think everyone is inhibited... to some degree... by something. Otherwise, we would all be experiencing higher levels of success and happiness in life than we currently are. In line with this thought, I'm wondering what you think is the main thing that's preventing you from experiencing the level of success (or happiness) you desire.

Does the human race spend too much time trying to live longer, looking for a cure for this and that. should we not deal with what life throws at us. If you get cancer at age 15 and are dead by 17 should you just deal with it. Those are the cards that life delt you, just play them. Why are we afraid to die. Why can't we learn to deal with grief. Why can animals just walk away from one of there own kind that had just been killed and just continue life. What is it in humans that makes us feel that OUR live's are far more important then anything else. Don't you get tired of the stem cell research debate. So you got breast cancer, at least you know How you are going to die. I may get hit by a truck and leave my wife and kids suddenly. Should it not be a survival of the fittest

What do you want? Do you want love because you want it or because you saw someone else with it? Do you want a new SUV? Do you want it because you want it or because Bob your neighbor just got one? Remove all outside impulses. What would you want? Material goods or success, whatever. What would you go buy if the thought of impressing women was not in the back of your mind? Have you always secretly wanted to drive a Yugo but never did cuz girls would laugh? Have you women ever wanted to cut off all your hair and go bald but fear society's reaction? Who are you really?

if our lives are mapped out and we are suppose to do things before we actually do them...well my real question is..if you are destined to time travel at a certain point in your life when you travel back in time when you reach that point again the original point (where you time traveled) well are you destined to travel back again and agin and so then you would be stuck in that one part of time??

...to be happy 110%, eternally..... heaven on earth so to speak. No waiting for the after life, but be at peace with one another and joyful always and in all ways. No being bored or negative emotions wearing you down...just all positive and happy.

If happiness is just a change of perspective, how can you master this to be the best human ever in the world? What kind of actions would this kind of bliss entail?
