I believe that metaphysically minded people are the reason we have space travel, and the Star Trek, and Matrix movies, don't you?

The Matrix movie was a great example of the metaphysical links to philosophy. Metaphysics studies the nature of reality.

The reason metaphysics exists is because people want to use other tools than experimentation and scientific method to define the world around us. We have a desire to imagine abstract dimensions and other worlds that are beyond the realm of science.

I serves our everyday lives through entertainment and through allowing us dream about something bigger than we are. I believe it helps us strive for something that is not really obtainable but in the process we grow from it. Every time we watch Star Trek, see a play, think about other world, we are practicing metaphysics by imagining a reality beyond our own.

Aristotle's work was indexed one day and this subject was put after physics thus termed meta physics. This is about as practical a definition as one will find.

Its usefulness depends on what the user makes of it. It has to do with the fundamental principles of knowledge and was devised before the field of psychology. I would posit that upon this occurrence metaphysics became one of its subsets.
