I'm not looking for fence-sitting answers here. I already know that there are many reasons to argue both for and against warfare. What I am asking is that you imagine you possess a magic amulet that gives you the power to end warfare everywhere, now and forever. Would you use it? What are your reasons, for or against using it? Would you hesitate before choosing or jump right in?

The background to this question is this:

Recently I asked here whether the world would be better off had gunpowder never been invented. To my surprise I received a resounding, "No!" I expected some no answers but it was actually unanimous. The reasons were varied. One suggested that without wars and the technology developed in and because of wars we might still be in the dark ages.

So how do you feel about this? Use the magic amulet or not?

I'm trying to write a piece exploring a coherence/holistic interpretation of knowledge where statements/theories are mutually supporting.

I am looking for a good example. "Evolution" is just too contentious and, as yet, too unspecific in its conlusions. "Plate techtonics" was another idea, but it seems just too singular in its output - not so much a group of inter-related theories but the only available meta-theory to stick onto the base thoeries.

What I'm really after is to be able to ask "how do we know X" and to have a group of theories supporting X, say, A, B, C and I can say "we could just as well started by asking how we know B"

Anyone got any ideas?

Do you really believe that it's worth holding out marrying someone/anyone on the slim chance that the universe may align one day, during your life-time, and you'll be thrown under the car of that person (metaphorically), or is a bird in the hand better than spinsterhood? And if I think that theory is twaddle, does that make me a pessimist or a realist? Now that our culture is so mobile compared to 100 or 200 years ago, are chances greater of finding your own TRUE LOVE or even smaller?

I allways disagree with people that think that way?
I feel that we have choices, and we have the gift to
dictate and make our own decisions some are good
and some are sad! I think that people just say things like that because they don't want to face the truth.

How would you justify and argue for vanity?

Thanks.

So we could use there resipitory systems and be able to dwell on this planet.

we are obviously aliens ourselves as we contribute nothing to the planet other than destruction , we dont care for any other living thing other than ourselves, we cannot live in peace , and the first man to think of an answer to where we came from was a mad man named Darwin. So we took that as the answer and educated all our children to believe this. Or of course the God the almighty created us and all the worldly problems?

Well I would prefere to believe it was the aliens.

Does anyone agree with me ??

A train was traveling thru Europe and in one cabin was a mathmatician, a philosopher, and a young boy. When the train crossed the border into Germany, they passed a black sheep and the boy said, "Look, the sheep in this country are black!"
The mathmatician said, "All you can say is that some of the sheep in Germany are black."
The philosopher said, "All you can really say is there is at least 1 sheep in Germany that is half black."
