god is the creation of primitive barbarians to explain the unknown. Modern man still retains belief in a god since it's in our genes (so to speak). The cerebral cortex (the rational part of our brains) is a more recent development. Obsolete genes do not die overnight, therefore you'll be seeing the 'creationist' worldview for some time to come

You truly can't ask this question when there is so much proof of God's existence, everyobody talks about miracles and everything. When there is so much proof, it's already not a matter of belief, it's pure ignorance.
My father is an atheist which has always bothered me although I'm not incredibly religious myself. After his father died, he started hearing his voice calling his name at night. He started hearing someone walk around the room whenever he was alone and then at night he felt someone stand next to him. He keeps feeling someone touching him or calling him and he's certain that it is his father. Just to clear it up, he's not crazy. On the contrary, he's a very logical and serious man that would never joke about this kind of thing. But what astounded me is that he wasn't scared at all and that he took this situation very lightly. I asked him while he was recounting all this if he still was an atheist. And he kind of started stammering and said he doesn't really know what to believe. I could see he was embarassed for having to admit that I was right. whenever I used to mention going to church or whenever I talked about phenomenons that involve ghots he would just dismiss me as crazy and laugh. But NOW... isn't it ironic how you are proven wrong when you least expect it?
And although I can see he certainly doesn't have the same beliefs as before, he still doesn't WANT to trust the idea of God's existence. He's opening up to the idea, but he's a very stubborn. I mean if even after your own parent's ghost visits you and gives you all kinds of signs to warn you of its presence you STILL don't believe there is a superior force out there somewhere... than you're a true ignorant.

God is so intelligent he made the fossil record to fool us.
He made the writers of the Bible retell impossible events and absolute "Truth" found in other Mesopatamian, Egyptian and Indian texts.
God is no fool. He knows very well what it takes to be a believer. Absolute distrust of the rule of this world.
He will ask for your only child on an altar.
There is nothing He wont ask against man and his 'reason'.
If manmade- God is our most absurd hero, He breaks laws as he makes them. He rapes with love. There is no replacement for God. "The possibility of anything" is more powerful than any rule we can design.
