i think it becomes a part of who we are, as long as we believe in the deception,,, and i think self deception is very real, both in positive and negative ways, positive in that sometimes it helps us see the best in a person or a situation or ourselves,,, and often when we treat things positively,,, it has a positive influence, sorta like the fake it till you make it,,, negative in that it prevents us from seeing reality,,, and what we dont see we cant fix/solve

Very good question indeed!!

At first thought, logic tells us that deceiving oneself is a misnomer ... we know everything we are doing.... so how can we do anything to deceive our self when the intention is already known to us.

But self deception is possible if it happens naturally or unintentionally. In order for this to happen, we should not be in full control of ourselves. That is possible in two ways,,,,, either when someone else brainwashes us or when we become slave to our own deep and strong emotion. Often parents deceive themselves when it comes to judging their children .... also the other way around when children think more highly of their parents than what the reality may be. Similarly regarding a person we love deeply.

In other words, we ourselves can deceive ourselves in times of weakness that can impair our objective judgement.

I think we should be honest and true to ourselves so that we can avoid deceiving or any deception like you said. I'm not sure what you mean but such self deception is not a good habit, in brief, that might imply trying to deceive others is all right which is immoral.

Real deception exists when it rebounds. If you deceive yourself, you will never be happy.

it defines our fears and the way we go about avoiding the uncomfortable things in our lives . it does not define us but defines the choices we make.
