I love being shallow and girly and all, yet i'm uncomfortable with the the reactions i get for my "superficial" indulgences.

How would you justify and argue for vanity?

Thanks.

Really good question and not one I've thought of before.

I'm not sure you can justify vanity. Not with philosophy anyway which is mostly about looking beyond what our eyes perceive and thinking about concepts. Though admittedly you then can apply what you've considered to the real world

But there is a biological imperative to look good to attract a potential mate. By looking the way you do you will attract a certain type of man who will find you attractive.

But there is a down side to being shallow and 'surface' orientated.

You will probably attract someone who does not value you for anything other than what you are like on the surface. If that is what you want then you should be happy in the way you wish to appear, but if that is not ultimately what you want then you may need to decide to change.

But it is up to you and I do not mean to dissuade you from being whatever you want to be. I'm just pointing out the fact that actions have reactions and behavior has consequences.

So go ahead, be girlie and shallow and vain. There are biological reasons for doing it. But know what the consequences of your actions will probably lead to.

Thank you for the question. An interesting point to consider.

justify vanity, well thats like trying to justify human nature, if you like being shallow I feel bad for you, girly does that mean
feminine ?superficial indulugances ?I never heard of these things
Who cares about getting reactions. Be yourself and theres 7 deadly sins Vanity is one...........I hate to argue , I would rather discuss it .

vanity is nothing without confidences and with confidence there can be vanity yet also comes pride which comes before the fall .what you say is you like being who you are yet need others to justify that in you .there is no justify who you are .you are who you are .enjoy who you are and do not label yourself

Nooo.
Sometimes there are some people that say false arguments about one person just for grudge, "fun" or vengeance. In that case, I think that vanity (or stupid pride) is a (mistaken) way of personal defense.

it's a problem with self image.
well!, that's the only thing that comes to mind.
when you say vanity the battle is already lost.
try being fussy about your appearance
or that you just want to present your best appearance.

"Vanity, thy name is woman"

No need to justify. We can be who we want to be. It is our God-given right. By being beautiful you bring something good into an otherwise ugly world!

It keeps things simple.
I like to be shallow, and i guess everyone does sometimes.
However perhaps you are being shallow too much, or maybe at an time "inappropriate" to your friends, so they may "look down" on it.

right laters, i'm off to buy some shoes!

its the ying/yang of life, there are many people who would /will put you down, for any reason or imagined reasons, so you balance life and the world, by being vain and thinking of yourself

There is nothing wrong with trying to look your best, however if it becomes obsessive there is a problem.
