We must remember that the future is neither wholly ours nor wholly not ours, so that neither must we count upon it as quite certain to come nor despair of it as quite certain not to come.

I philospher feels that we are contented with little if we have not much, being honestly persuaded that they have the sweetest enjoyment of luxury who stand least in need of it, and that whatever is natural is easily procured and only the vain and worthless hard to win. Plain fare gives as much pleasure as a costly diet, when once the pain of want has been removed, while bread and water confer the highest possible pleasure when they are brought to hungry lips. To habituate one's self, therefore, to simple and inexpensive diet supplies all that is needful for health, and enables a man to meet the necessary requirements of life without shrinking, and it places us in a better condition when we approach at intervals a costly fare and renders us fearless of fortune.

So basically he is saying those who are without appreciates more and they are the ones who are truly happy when they obtain things such as money and food even if it just a little as long as it is enough to keep them healthy.

It gives white people a chance to say the word without saying it. "I would never say the N word." But you thought it otherwise you wouldn't know what N stands for.

if tomorrow for just one single hour
you were sent back in time to when hitler was a one year old baby, your standing there face to face with him,
what you can see before you is an innocent child
but you know in the future this child will be an evil man who will kill millions of innocent people including children...you have a gun in your hand...your option is to kill hitler and save millions of innocent lives and live with the sin on you or you can leave him alive and everytime you hear of these innocents that were killed at the hands of hitler well they could have been saved by you...what would you do??

Do you ponder about life?
Why manking is inherently evil?
Does anything we do in this life really matter when we die?
What would the world be like if men treated women as their equals and with respect?
What the perfect society would be like? (and if one could at all exist?)
What goes through a murderer's/thief's mind when they commit their crimes?
How life would have been like in other time periods?
why religion is such a big part of the world?

sometimes we all need to sit down, think, and reflect on our lives.
are we making a positive influence on the world?

have a great day

I do not want mine anymore; I feel it has become a hindrance to my advancement. When I help a kitten out of a tree I do not do it because my conscience tells me to, I do it because it is right. How do I get away from these emotions and become a truly free person who does what needs to be done without being tortured by this demon called conscience?

Why do we have fear? Why do we have a conscience? As intelligent beings should'nt we be able to do what we want without having these automatic sensations? Is our conscience and our fear simply a holdover from a more primitive time in our existence?

In A Philosphical Inquiry into the Sublime and the Beautiful by Edmund Burke, he states that God is sublime not beautiful. He lays out the characteristics of beauty and explains sublime. For those who read this.,....is he right saying God is not beautiful, but sublime? I have some idea on this but I want to see other opinions.

I guess I am going through a phase, (birthday coming up), I am so happy with how my life has gone, it is more then I could ever have expected and can only get better, and i was just wondering how others feel about their lives, i have a theory that my generation had little and appreciates more, yet all around anymore I see people unhappy and greedy and nonappreciative. Mind you i am only going to be 27, so how times change so quick is mind boggling. Just tell me if you are happy with what you have and where you are in life? thanks t.c. Randi

i find this utterly disgusting; if I know somebody who can use my help, I help them, I don't go talking behind someone's back especially if I know this individual is a very fragile person. I don't mind talking about somebody who has wronged someone but not about people's personal lives if this would hurt them.

Why do you think people like this so much rather than being discreet and helping someone improve their life?

thanx
