I think it means that we can't be certain what the future holds so don't be so certain something you want to happen will happen (like getting into the college of your choice), but at the same time don't cry because you're so sure that it won't happen.

I think it means we can't rely on what we think the future will hold for us. So don't worry about it as we can't change what it is going to be.
