whenever I see/think about a homeless person I ask myself what kind of life they've had and what's happened to them; I just find their condition utterly heartbreaking.

do you ever feel the same

thanx

Yes it's heartbreaking & scary. Each one would have a story. Some tragedy that set off a chain of events that led them to the street. The scary part is that most of us aren't too far from that possibility. A lot of us earn just enough to pay the bills and are only a paycheck or two away from being on the street.

The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith is the true rags to riches story of a homeless man who becomes a millionaire. I cried just seeing the preview! Looks very inspiring.

There's much I could say, concerning your question. Oddly enough, to my mind the only time I've occasioned upon it's like since before I was a level one! Let us say, that all is not what it appears. Take the term ' homeless '. Dead accurate one might say. Describes the condition, situation, but ... is it really accurate? Do you know the individual involved? Would you want to? There are two kinds of people in this condition. Those who, in fact, choose to be. Then there are those who are victimized into this condition. My outlook is as follows; justice. It is not ultimately left up to people. Justice has a way of working itself against the doings of nameless crime. Often by the majority consensus or the tacit consent of the many. Hope this helps.

Do I feel heart broken when seeing a homeless person?

NO.

There was a time many years ago that it bothered me. But, after having experienced "homelessness" myself... I found ways to accept homeless people as they are, and am not moved to feel heartbroken.

People end up homeless for a variety of reasons.

Some have no home simply because they choose to live that way. They feel a sense of freedom that they were unable to experience when working a regular job and keeping up a house.

Having experienced this freedom... due to whatever reason they initially became homeless... many people (who are homeless) choose to remain homeless.

But, in reality, they are not actually "homeless." Their "home" is wherever they happen to be... while they're there.

The primary thing that causes people to become "homeless" in the first place is... the occurrence of an insufficient amount of income. In other words... a lack of money.

Although there are some real homeless people in this country, there are, also, scam artist that panhandle people like you and me. These people make quite a good living and have a home. When someone now trys to panhandle me close to a resturant or hotel, I offer to go into the resturant with them and pay for their meal or I will, also, offer to go into the hotel and pay for a single room for a night for them. You would be surprised how many people do not want this kind of help.

I've only seen 2 homeless people. I infact asked my dad what their story was. They had some mental problems so they were living out on the streets but they were rich. I couldn't believe that someone would live out on the streets when they have money. I'm sure if I saw other homeless people out on the streets I would feel bad for them though.

I usually think, there but for the grace of God go I. And I find people who blame the homeless and helpless utterly heartless.

Yes, and that's why I'm helping the Simon community, an Irish society for the homeless.
If you are concerned, go and give a bit to the organisations that are looking after the homeles.
It does not have to be much, if everybody gave a little, their situation could be improved.

Not utterly heart-breaking but sad and angry that some governments have stopped aid towards shelters and in some cases benefit causing even greater hardship for some.

I do feel saddened but I do not excuse the part they played in their situation. Most homeless are mentally ill or suffer from addiction.

Sort of. I used to help this guy out by giving him money and/or sandwiches, but today I saw him at a gas station, driving a buick.
