I do not want mine anymore; I feel it has become a hindrance to my advancement. When I help a kitten out of a tree I do not do it because my conscience tells me to, I do it because it is right. How do I get away from these emotions and become a truly free person who does what needs to be done without being tortured by this demon called conscience?

I think you are right Diane. I am trying to extricate those irrational parts of my conscience. The parts that serve no purpose other than to torment me. I want to hold onto the part that loves all life.

you are finding your own morality - good for you! Start by critically thinking about the reasons behind all of your actions. Your "conscience" is really that moral guide that tells you that helping that kitten is the right thing to do. What you're trying to get rid of is your indoctrination (probaby religious and familial) that may actually clash with your conscience.
Your own mind is the best defense against knee-jerk morality. Keep it open, seaching and free-thinking.

your conscience is 1/2 of you, regardless of how you preceive it.
therefore there is no way to kill or lose it.
You may be able to advance in an esoteric fellowship such as the Rosicrucians or other such group, but if you are truly looking at things as correct and not correct, then you will know that to lose your conscience is to lose your mind.
You can lose it through high stress, or drug abuse, but you also lose any prior benefit from it...
Good luck with your search

Feeling guilty is your conscience telling you its time to re-evaluate. If there is something you can do to better the situation, then do it. If not, say you are sorry, and let it go. Learn from it, and move on. If you make a mistake, its no longer a mistake if you learn something from it.

We are here to experience all that is, how could you want to advance if you want to ignore part of what is part of you? Observe the conscience and come to understand its role in your advancement.

Your conscience is what lets you know what is right & wrong. Without a conscience you would never do what is right, so stop kidding yourself.

perhaps it is just the attachment to your thoughts that you see as the hindrance to your chosen path and the attachment is what keeps you entangled with your emotions. getting free takes the acceptance of what is, simply is. how does one get there is to quiet the ego and lower expectations.

The only way to kill your conscience is to totally deny God. I don't mean become an atheist, but to stop listening to his voice within you. I believe people like Hitler and Stalin did this.
You simultaneously destroy your soul when you do this.
