I'm learning the guitar myself, but I'm always confuse between this 3 things, scale, arpeggios and riff.

What's the difference between them?

When I see a solo tabs, I can't tell if its scale or arpeggios.. not too sure what riff is either.

Any help? Thanks

I have an audition in a couple of weeks for a musical, it is really important to me so I want to get the song perfect.
It has to upbeat, and all the songs I usually sing are slow power ballads so I am a bit stuck.
Can someone please give me some ideas of upbeat audition songs and also tell me what they mean by upbeat as well, thank you so much! x

So I have a preformance of 'High School Musical' tonight, and I have a fever. -_-

I'm not sure specifically what my temp is, but I'm really achey (my entire body feels likes it just got slammed against a brick wall and I'm about to crumble into a thousand pieces), and cold, and my throat is sore. My head is stuffed and I'm shaking. Plus, there isn't any understudies, I'm a major character (Taylor) and I have vocal solos.

Is there anything I can do other then tylenol to help me get through tonight. (and the TWO shows tommorrow?) Thanks in advance!

I have learn guitar for like 8 months. I can pretty much play most of the chords now. Except a little difficulty on bar code. I cant play the guitar just by listening the rythm of the song.

Now i have a problem to advance myself to the next level, such as guitar solo part/finger picking, songs like dust in the wind and greensleeves still seems so hard for me on my acoustic guitar.

What i can do is just strumming, also my strumming pattern is not very creative, kind of using same pattern most of the time.

Could that because i dont read music and that is the reason why i cant learn as fast as others, do you think learn guitar blindly is fine, by just remember the chords? What should i do to adjust myself.

I really hope someday i can play canon in D, tears in heaven, stairway to heaven, and hotel california with my acoustic guitar.

Please advice, your advice will be appreciated !!

So, in the advanced band at my school we have this flute seating audition tomorrow. And, I jsut can't compete witht he other players. I have all my scales down, and the soolo piece pretty decently. But, my tone is terrible. I have been playing since fourth grade, now in tenth. I have always had good tone quality however compared to the toehrs, I do not on my flute. I played on one fo my friends intermediate flute the toher day and is was stunning. But, my flute, the same one I learned on in fourth grade just can't compete with the others. Buying a better one is just not an option right now, with my dad out of work. My flute has never had a matience or clean-up or anything to it; and the quality is constantly going downward. But, I just do not have the money right now to do anything. so, pretty much I am freaking out; because I know I won't get first because of it;nor am I even sure if he will give me 2nd, first chair.I am better than quite a few, but I just do not want to be stuck last

I turned 18 on September 8 this month, and I have always been fascinated and captivated by the sound of a Cello. I've always wanted to play one, but have never had the opportunity or the money to do so. I'm hoping to get a job soon so I can save up for one and finally be able to play it.
I'm kind of a late bloomer in the whole music scene. I started band in 8th grade (usually you start in 6th grade) and I have been working really hard to improve myself over the last 4 1/2 years. I love everything about music, and I really want to continue to play in College in a Marching Band & Symphonic Band of some kind.
Can any Cello players out there give me some advice about buying a Cello, tuning, finding good teachers, how much I should be ready to spend, how long it takes to learn fingerings (I'm a woodwind player mostly, but I play some brass too)

Anything would be greatly appreciated! :)

So today my band teacher goes up to me and asks me if I want to switch to bass clarinet next school year. I IMMEDIATELY say yes, because I've ALWAYS wanted to play that. But then I got to wondering, why'd she choose me?

I've played Bb (b-flat) clarinet for 6 years, and i'm 5th chair out of 6 people. Any ideas?
