you don't have to read music to play the drums. look at your local library to see if they have books or videos on how to play. ours does.

Hi, Jeanne.
Good to see another wanting to take the path of drums. :)
One thing you can do to get started is buy a practice pad and some sticks. If you're feeling ambitious you could buy a snare drum. Your sticks are a personal choice and use some that feel comfortable in your hand. There are countless sources to get with lessons such as the Internet, library or personal instruction.
You said you don't have much money so that eliminates personal instruction unless you know someone who plays.
All you need is someone to teach you the basics and you'll be off.
I'm self-taught, my brother showed me a few things and then I was on my own. I've since picked up lessons from various people along the way. I don't read notes and I don't use tabs. I believe one of the best ways to learn is listening to music and play, play, play. A writer reads to write. Same with instruments. Good luck.

Here's my suggestion: Go on to wantaddigest.com and look up percussion. Look for cheap drum pads and get some drum sticks too. Or if you don't have that much money than improvise with the drum sticks and use some good wood sticks from the woods. As for the music, see if you can get a private tutor or someone who knows how to play the drums well.

I started playing with an electric drumkit at first when I was younger. They're not too expensive and you could probably find a cheap one to start with at Wal Mart or something. You don't need to read music right away, just play around with it to see if you like doing it and if it comes naturally to you. Then after a while you could start with just a snare drum. You could get a used one for a decent price from your local music store and just build up your set as you have the money for it. It's a lot of fun!

Take instructions, guy. i attempted lower back in the amazing eighty's, bought a secondhand set and what a comedy. you do not study tocontinual a vehicle or fly a aircraft with the aid of your self so why could desire to drumming be any distinctive? in case you desire to be solid or the main suitable at some thing, there are not any undemanding techniques out.

Go to a music store and ask them if they have used drum kits. They most likely will. (try Guitar center) Start with getting a drum kit and learn on your own. Either that or you could get lessons. Its pretty pricey though.

Go to youtube.com, and search for videos of Keith Moon (or The Who). Do what he does.
