The best way would be to make sure the fabric of the pants is strong (maybe reinforce it with a layer of flat-lining) and the stitching of the seam is weak. From there you'll want to make sure they fit tightly enough to split and as some mentioned above, make a tiny "starter" hole in the stitching.

I am assuming you can't use velcro which would be the easiest way.

I cannot help but smile while answering your question.

Maybe you can tear your pants BEFORE the cue thing. And then sew the torn part with single stich so that it won't be difficult when you want them torn on cue.

Maybe you mean using a cue stick from billiards to split them?

wear satin pants that r very tight and loosen the stitching.
Actually i have to attract somebody by friday and i was thinking i could not do it, then I remebered my new tight dark blue jeans. That will do the trick!

Have them already torn and have someone tear a piece of cloth offstage at the right moment.
