I bought my daughter who is 11 years old, a beginner Academy flute becuase she just started but then I decided to get her a new one but what kind of flute should I get her. Would anybody tell me which kind of brand and which model would be a very great flute to play. I have heard that Yamaha has been a great brand but what other models would be good from Yamaha ??? Is there other flutes like Gemeinhardt or Jupiter, Pearl ???? I would relly like to ger her a Japanese brand or Yamaha.

It depends on what kind of tone your daughter would like to play. If she likes warm tones...Jupiter is great.
If she likes shriller, sharper pitch the japanese brand Sinari is great.
I own a Gemeinhardt KGB special conservatory and i love it to death it has a sound that is somewhere in the middle.
Yamaha is an excellent brand that has a somewhat sharper pitch, but very much like gemeinhardt, they are often the most affordable.

Hope I could help! Good Luck!

The best thing would be for her to try the different instruments with her instructor/private teacher to see which ones will best suit her. This is because everyone is totally individualistic on the instruments in terms of sound and comfort. You'll want to get her a flute that meets both of those, is easily repairable, and will "hold up" really well (i.e. NO instruments from walmart type of stores or the cheap chinese instruments on ebay). The brands that you have mentioned are well known in the flute world for beginner level instruments, which is what your daughter needs. In addition, most band/orchestra instrument stores would have these available either used, "like new" (as in they've only been played a short time), and brand new.

In terms of the Japanese models, to my knowledge, you don't really find other beginner models (in the US at least) other than the Yamaha. If your daughter eventually decides to pursue music on a much more serious level in high school, college, or beyond, then she can start looking into other japanese brands such as Muramatsu, Miyazawa, and Sankyo.

Hope this helps

i have been playing flute for a LONG time. i currently own a Gemeinhardt, which is the best flute made. i love it so much. but i learned on an Armstrong. that was a great flute, and its now being passed down through my siblings to learn on. Yamaha is alright, but not very good tone quality. i would not suggest it for an 11 year old. maybe for a 9 or 10 year old. Jupiter is also not the greatest, but Pearl flutes produce beautiful tone and make the learning experience as easy as playing on an Armstrong ( if that makes sense.)
have fun shopping! wish your daughter luck for me and tell her to stick with it! flute helps with many things, like singing, and piano playing, and even with other instuments : )
hope i helped!

I personally like Pearl. I believe it is a Japan based company, or a lot of their flutes at least come from Japan.

Gemeinhardt is pretty good too.

I would recommend staying away from Jupiter. In my experience, they have had pretty low quality.

Good luck.
