I need the names of some good books, fiction or non-fiction I am a young adult but I will take suggestions for adult books too. I have read the obvious such as Harry Potter and would like something different. Thanks so much!

When selecting a novel to buy, please rank the most important factors in your choice (I intentionally left out price, and feel free to leave a factor out if it has no bearing on your decision).

1. Like the author
2. Like the cover (front)
3. Like the cover (summary on the back)
4. Like the first five pages
5. Author or book recommended by a friend or trusted source
6. Like the genre (Sci-Fi, Romance, etc.)

And finally, please tell me what genre you read most.

I read the book and recently saw the movie and for some reason, I must've missed something.

NOTE: if you haven't read book five, don't read any further.

What was Dolores Umbridge's motive for making the lives of the Hogwarts students miserable? Why was she "in denial" about using spells in the Defense of the Dark Arts class? Why did she insist that there was nothing to worry about? Was she "in cahoots" with Voldemort (I really doubt this but I'm just asking)?

I'm writing a story about a very unique woman and a spartan warrior. Unfortunately, I cant get very far without naming my main character. therefore, I need an original name for an escaped slave-girl. Something as unique as she is. Frankly, I'm stumped.

If not, what do you propose should be done about the constant flow of Harry Potter spam caused by people who are apparently too mentally retarded to search for questions before they ask them?

I only remember bits of it, so here goes ;

It was set in the 1800's. A man and woman had a child (daughter) and she was deformed the midwife was going to strangle the baby but the father walked in before she could do anything. (the woman had the baby at her mothers house in a city) When they went back to their farm the woman fell pregnant again. One day the husband went into the cows shed and he was near one of the cafes and the mother cow pushed him up against the wall and his insides exploded and he died instantly. The wife loses the baby and moves back to her parents with her child.(thats all at the start of the book.)

It goes through the daughters and her cousins whole life. I think the child's name was Bella.

If anyone knows this book could they please tell me. I have been trying to remember what it was called but I can't so help would be greatly appreciated.

I liked Nausea, Grendel, Brave New World, and Siddhartha. What would be a good next read? I like stuff that has meaning or some philosophical implications. So please don't say Artemis Fowl or Kite Runner or anything like that.

I just self published my first book, "Top Gun Management" at Lulu.com and it ranks 5,883 in sales after two weeks. I wonder what kind of sales numbers successful books achieve. Information from people who have been there and done that would be appreciated.

What Does this mean: The telephone rang inside, startlingly, and as Daisy shook her head decisively at Tom the subject of the stables, in fact all subjects, vanished into air. Among the broken fragments of the last five minutes at table I remember the candles being lit again, pointlessly, and I was conscious of wanting to look squarely at every one, and yet to avoid all eyes. I couldn't guess what Daisy and Tom were thinking, but I doubt if even Miss Baker, who seemed to have mastered a certain hardy scepticism, was able utterly to put this fifth guest's shrill metallic urgency out of mind. To a certain temperament the situation might have seemed intriguing--my own instinct was to telephone immediately for the police.

I don't understand the entire Fifth guest's shrill...is it refering to the mistress or the baby or the butler? andthe entire calling the police part? I don't understand the last sentence. Please explain. Thanks
