I'm doing a literary analysis on Bronte's Jane Eyre. However I am having trouble drawing up a few things from this novel:

Symbols. What do you believe are symbols in the story? - could Mr. Rochester be a symbol for hope? She seemed very dependent on "hoping" that Mr. Rochester was alive and well while she was at the Moore House.

Tone. The tone in this story seems to shift so much, between Gateshead up to Morton. The thought of marriage being the prominent "happy" portion of this novel. Thoughts?

Style. Bronte definitely has a unique style of writing, using a more complex vocabulary, speaking to the reader as a narrator within the story. What do you think?

Sometimes when I am reading a book I get at the bookstore, I sniff the pages. In fact, that has to be one of the reasons why I buy my books instead of going to the library.

Sometimes I buy books (that i am interested in reading) for the simple "new smell"

does anyone else think like this? or am I the only one? keep in mind I am totally vulnerable for asking, so be nice. lol

When I was a teenager, I read a paperback book about child abuse (or at least I think that I read it). It was about a young girl that ran away from home and was taken in by an abusive family. They would tie her to the bed and spray her off outside when she wet the bed. On the cover of the book, there was a picture of a doll with a large hole in her head! The details of the book are too vivid to have come from a dream, but I can't find the book or remember the title to save my life. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have just finished His dark Materials and Harry potter before that. I am looking for somthing a bit more grown up now, although I do like my fantasy.

Having said that it might be nice to read about the real world for a change.

I am putting together a photography book for my cousin. The pictures that fill the book are 90% pictures I took of her and 10% of us together. I don't quite know what to call it. I am trying to veer away from the obvious easy title of simply her name "Marie".. Something more creative would be great.. I was also thinking of "I spy Marie" but i dunno... Thanks everyone!!

I started reading a really bad translation kept in the epic poem style, and started looking over the descriptive translated version. I really disliked the epic style one because the translation was clumsy and obviously close to Victorian in style. But the descriptive one seems to lack something of the repetitive verse and the language of the Odyssey. Do you think there's a better-crafted translation in the epic poem style, or should I stick with the descriptive storytelling style?

I remember I read a short story a few years ago that was possibly by Ray Bradbury, but I can't remember the name. It was set around a group of people that escaped earth to live on Mars because of nuclear war, but once they began living on Mars the planet began to change them. I remember the people began to look different, with tanner skin and weird eyes. And once some more people flew in from earth, they didn't recognize the original "colony" and thought they were Martians instead of humans. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.
