Sometimes when I am reading a book I get at the bookstore, I sniff the pages. In fact, that has to be one of the reasons why I buy my books instead of going to the library.

Sometimes I buy books (that i am interested in reading) for the simple "new smell"

does anyone else think like this? or am I the only one? keep in mind I am totally vulnerable for asking, so be nice. lol

No, of course not. There is something special about buying your own book- like the day its released or something and then knowing that THIS IS BRAND NEW. Nobody has touched it but you, because once you purchase the book IT IS YOURS.
I love the way certain books smell. If you ever purchase those Nancy Drew books, the ones from the seventies with a yellowed cover and those thick pages... they smell kind of weird but I love them.
Then certain books of mine have a smell in them that for some reason has to do with the book. Like, I have a book called The Secret Garden, and I swear I can smell roses on its pages. Strange I know, but I love it!
Don't worry, you are not alone when it comes to stuff like that.
;-D

Not at all. When I was young the first thing I do is smell a book before reading it. Sometimes the smell enhances the book, or draws you away from it. Most of my favorite books have a pleasant smell to them.

It's one of those free joys in life. The smell of the stacks in the library. Carpet stores. A new car. Greenhouse. Bakery. Linen just in from the clothesline.

Ever notice how things willfully intended to smell nice give you a headache, like a candle store?

I do too !!! I can still "remember" the smell of my first grade classroom ! ( the new books smelled so NEW !) But, it's not like a "thing" where I have to hang out at bookstores or libraries !

Yes. it is very weird. But the thing is, even thought it is weird, you are not the only weirdo out there. I love the smell of new books too. And so do millions of other read-a-holics out there. lol.

I know where you're coming from!! I love smelling new books and sometimes I behave as a sommelier in front of wines... It is part of the pleasure of buying yourself a new book!!

A bit unusual perhaps but not wierd, people like what they like. That's why god gave us broccoli AND chocolate. I love the smell of cattle and to most people that is unpleasant.
