I know I have read before that when works of art are created, such as writing, they are immediately copyrighted from that moment of creation. I was wondering if this is still correct, or if I wrote a novel and I would have to also do something else to protect my creation from someone copying it?

I was just thinking about Saurons former master Melkor and my question is was Sauron his most powerful servant or just his most trusted servant? It seems that some of his other servants like Gothmog would be at least equal to sauron in terms of power. Was Sauron considered Melkors Predecessor or just one of his minions?

Did everyone in the original Order of Phoenix die by the end of the last Harry Potter book. If I remember correctly, the members were: Harry's parents, Neville's parents, Sirius, Lupin, Petigrew, and Dumbledore. Am I missing someone? Was Mad-eye a member too? He didn't survive anyway. Did anyone in the original Order of Phoenix survive?

I would LOVE to be a writer. Don't ask me why, but every time I just think of writing I get this happy feeling, as if anything is possible. And in writing, it is.

What about you? Do you like to write? And if you do, do you want to make a career of it?

Ok, so my teacher has told us we need to have this book called The World's Greatest Speeches 4th Edition. But the problem is, it hasn't been printed since '72. So, naturally it costs 25 bucks and up. My mom refuses to pay that much for a book that I'll probably never read again and I can't find it for cheaper than 18 bucks! But, when I tried to buy the 18 buck one, it said that it was out of print! GRRRR. So aggravating. Anyone know a good place to find a bargain on it? Please help me...I have to have it in ONE WEEK...

Tons of people on here say they didn't like the end and they thought it was a cop-out and things like that. And people I actually know say things like they think Harry had to die, or should have died. I think the ending was great. I thought everything came together well (except maybe the epilogue, but I can deal with that). Why do people think he should have died?? I mean, come on, all the misery (the Dursley's period) the kid went through, Never knowing his parents, losing Sirius and Dumbledore. Don't you think he deserved a little happiness in the end? Oh well, it is just a book.

The door to my tiny bedroom suddenly creaked open. My eyes flew open immediately. My mother's head was stuck into my room. “Time to get up my dear child. Your work is to be done.” Within a flash of a few seconds, she was gone and my door was shut once more. It was early. Too early for most. The room was dark, as usual. I could barely see my tiny trunk that contained all of my clothes on the opposite wall of my bedroom. A stubby little candle stick in a metal holder sat on top of the trunk. Was it morning already? It felt like I had just gone to bed. Ugh. Another day was here. Another day of work on our Amish farm.
I rolled out of my bed and planted my feet on the rough wood planks which made my floor. They were cold and scratchy. The floor did not bother me anymore though. Nor did the early hours or anything else.

I'd like to pick out a book to read for fun before my English class goes insane with reading assignments. What're some good books you all have read?

I prefer fiction to the other categories (fantasy, nonfiction, romance, etc.). I also can read young adult novels, but I don't like unrealistic or girly ones (though I'm 16 and a girl). I'd rather read about a guy stabbing someone than a girl going to prom. I'm not going to simply ignore you if you suggest any books that aren't strictly fiction. I have found some exceptions to my usual love of realistic stories. For instance, I like the Harry Potter books.

Also, don't hold back just because you think a book is too difficult for me. I always welcome a challenge.

Here are some books I've enjoyed in the past:

To Kill a Mockingbird
The Great Gatsby
The Killer Angels
The Bell Jar
Catcher in the Rye
The Outsiders
That Was Then, This is Now
Numerous Stephen King books
As I Lay Dying
Harry Potter

Thanks, and happy reading!

I always thought it was the first option, but then in 8th grade we read it, and both teachers said he was burned alive.

Now, we're reading it again, and I looked it up on sparksnotes as a quick review after I read it, and it didn't mention anything about burning or fire.

What do you think?

No, this isn't homework. Baven't been in school for some time now so I'm not looking for homework help.

What I am looking for is a question concerning the book itself. Not the material in the book, but rather the condition. Has anyone else had a problem with the paperback falling apart? I had to read it in tenth grade and it was like virtually everyone's copy would fall apart. My english teacher didn't seem too phased by this, telling us to try and keep the pages togther (and you'd think a teacher would be upset by their students books falling apart).

I'd have just chalked it up to the books all being old, but I bought a brand new copy soon after graduating high school and within days of purchasing the book started falling apart. I've never even bent the spine and try to take as good care of it as possible, but it's like it's determined to fall apart.

Has anyone else experinced this problem, especially when their copy is brand new?
