I really like books like.....The Grapes of Wrath, To Kill a Mockingbird, any John Steinbeck novels, Victor Hugo and alot of the older ones. I also like the fantasy novels: Harry Potter, LOTR, Edgeworld Chronicles. I really don't much care for the cookie cutter book club books or love & mystery books. Thank you so much.

Later, he meets Alriha and Raye, and they journey to stop the evil guys that are controlling their country. then they learn of a key which leads to a realm in which there is a sacred guarded treasure. that is what the evil guy wants and the key is in fragment scattered across the country.

I've been writing for many, many years, and have had articles and interviews published in magazines, and a poem published in a poetry anthology. Those were submissions to contests/requests, so there really wasn't much involved. I'd like to try and get a novel published, but I'm at a loss as to where to start. Obviously I have to finish the story, but what's the next step? Are there any guidelines that need to be followed?

I know many authors use symbolism deliberately to be discovered by the reader but how often is this the case, and how often is it simply a case of random pattern recognition?

If you type 'themes symbolism' into Yahoo this is the first webpage:
http://www.rit.edu/~sjg2490/lotf/analysis.html

Did William Golding deliberately use the symbolism referred to on this page?

For my Creative Writing class we have to write a short story, I really want to write some thing along the lines of Columbine, but I'm worried about the reaction of my teacher. As far as I know, he has no personal history with the idea, but ... I don't know. What would you want to see out of a short story for a creative writing class?

Is it possible ,in a third person story ,to switch point of views?
I mean for example ,in the harry potter stories, would it have been possible when the characters were separated to go to someone else's point of view instead of harry's like in the lord of the rings when they had almost three separate story lines?I know that the lord of the rings was a different type of style, but i could not think of another example.

What I wish to do is this: I wish to develop a plot for my short story from a raw idea, while developing it gradually, adding ONE subplot (so as to make it short, but interesting), and developing my characters, but most of all, I wish to have a jolly good time doing it, without thinking of the amount of responsibility I must take in order for it to be a career. I already know that it is a great responsibility, but I do not wish to think in those terms, for it shall only spoil my fun, and make it so that I am not motivated to do it for the long term.

I Also wish to do it using only a notebook and pen, for it is all I have at my disposal.
