I suppose you want more than the "it's a darn fine read" or "I liked the story" kind of recommendation.
I think it is very articulate and thoughtful - it works on many levels. A good sci-fi read? Yes. But more than that. A good discussion of leadership and psychology.
There are several reasons, but seriously - read the book and wonder why you hadn't read it sooner.
Also, check the link, especially under awards and impact . . . some info there I did not know.

I recommend Ender's Game.
I read this, oh, I think 3 or 4 years ago. It's one of those stories that you continue to think about long, long after you've finished it.
Alternative read for sci-fi - Ringworld by David Niven. There was a sequel called Ringworld Engineers - not quite as entertaining. And I think there may be another book or two.
But the original blew my mind. Loved it.
A ringworld is similar to a Dyson's sphere except that it doesn't completely encirle the sun.

It's easily Card's best work, and is one of the best in Science Fiction literature. It's an easy read, and you should start right now.
