My favorite series are Naruto, which is about ninja's, and Bleach, which is about Death Gods.

I like that both stories take place in unique "worlds". For example, the Death Gods in Bleach live in a place known as the Soul Society.

I'd like to write a fantasy story. I thought about writing a story about characters who are Sirens (from Greek Mythology). But I barely know anything about Greek Mythology, and it would probably take a long time for me to learn everything I'd need to know.

I don't want to write about ninja's or Death Gods because it's already been done in my favorite anime's. It would be too easy to accidentally copy one of those stories.

I've already thought about using mermaids, witches, wizards, fairies, and elves. If I chose fairies, what kind of world could they live in?

What other mythological creatures can I write about?

What are you more likely to read a book about – please rank in order:

a). A blood sucking invisible alien that has puppies in a guy’s attic
b). A mountain biking teen of a single parent (father) who discovers his dream girl is being abused.
c). A guy who sneaks out of the house at night and randomly plants flowers because he thinks the world is ugly.
d). A kid finds a crotch pony (toy horse on a stick) in his parents’ new house’s attic that is cursed by an ancient Indian medicine man (the pony that is).
e). A teen finds out his father belongs to an ancient witch coven and begins to learn his fathers spells by sneaking peaks at spell books and spying on witch gatherings.

A 14-year-old girl who lives in Oklahoma City,Oklahoma in 1995,during the oklahoma city bombing. Her mom and mom's friend works at the building, when the bomb goes off the two moms are working and the character's friend who's mom is friends with the characters mom is there visiting her mother. (read this slowly it may be a little confusing LOL!) The friends mom dies and the friend and the charachter's mom get seriously injured. The character has a boyfriend but he soon becomes her ex-boyfriend because he is selfish and thinks that she is spending too much time taking care of her mother and friend.

I have finally came up with an idea, because i have been interested in the Oklahoma City Bombing for a while. (I live in OKlahoma)

I'd like a challenging read, but I'm open to any suggestions you guys might have.
I like Laurie Halse Anderson, Sarah Dessen, Harry Potter, and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unforunate Events, but I also liked Brave New World, Flowers For Algernon, and The Lovely Bones.
What I'm not really into is really romance-y chick lit (The Notebook was okay) and really heavy science fiction.

Suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I think some would call it Lad Lit, since it's heavily influenced by the style popularized by Nick Hornby. Still, the fad of Lad Lit (at least in terms of a definition) seems to have come and gone. Will it work better under generic Commercial Fiction?

If this novel is well written could it find an audience? It's part reality/part fantasy, for a good reason. A boy is taken from his adopted family and goes to live with his real mother and grandparents even though he never met them (separated at birth). Since he doesn't find reality comprehensible, and he's confused, events in his neighborhood seem real but always have a magical element-- since he has to fill in the parts he doesn't understand. One chapter: his hero is a high school student--the state champion high jumper. When the friend gets a beating by his father, the narrator gets upset and hits the father with a rock. The friend runs away. The neighborhood is worried, thinking the boy is missing. They search for him until the narrator sees his hero standing on a roof. He smiles & jumps. Instead of falling, he starts flying. The boy points to the sky. Everybody else sees him flying too. Why not? He's the high jump champ! P.S. The first chapter was publlished in a magazine.
